Best time of year for Stanage

What would be the best time of year to hit the Stanage Bay area. What sort of species are on tap and what sort of weather can I expect. I'm thinking May might be the go.
Would you fish neaps or the bigger tides? What moon phases are best?
It looks like a hot and cold spot so I would like to make the most of the trip

    Cheers

    I'll be there for a week from the 3rd - 11th April (Easter).....can't wait!

Spent a week there in September '08 havn't been back since. We got some good trout and most other reef species, spanish, tuna, and snapper (which was a surprise).
Takes a while finding productive spots though especially if you're new to the area, but we managed a good couple days fishing out around the islands. The current roars up there so if you can it's best you go on smaller tides.

This trip we expect most reef species (excludining snapper as from what I gather they only venture up that way in winter), hopefully some good spanish and possibly try for some GT's.

What size boat do you intend to bring up? Make sure your trailer is top notch coz the dirt roads can be bad. But you should be right if you take it easy.

    Thanks Chris

I will be taking up a smallish (5m+) glass centre console so I will be sticking in fairly close. How far were you going to find good ground?
Any suggestions as to where to stay

    Cheers

I have a 4.75 Platey and headed out anywhere between 30-50km weather permitting of course. Anywhere around the Duke's and Percy Islands is good, just look for deep structure. There's a lot of good ground out there just gotta try around until you find a spot thats firing.

As to where to stay: Contact Bevan and Maree on Ph. (07) 49373169
they own the local store and will point you in the right direction for accomodation etc.

Thumbs up Re: Best time of year for Stanage

Attachment 56452remember the ramp is half tide and up only. go on the small tides. hexham island is about 27 k from the ramp. lots of pikey bream up the sound if you can't get out some massive crabs about. tie your pots to trees other wise they will wash away. many dangerous rocks up the sound take care. make sure your trailer is solid and you have good tyres and spares.

    enjoy
