    Maroochy River

Went up the coast to stay at the shack and tried to get a fish in but got swamped with family stuff but then again after looking at the Maroochy river I wasn't that dissapointed. Maybe you Sunshine coast boys could shine a bit of light on this subject for me as I pretty lost in this area. Left the ramp at about 5 this morning ( the one in Bradman st side of the Cod hole.) It was the last of the run out and with the condition of the water I tried to travel to the bar using beacon to beacon as a reference to find my way. Now I thought I had the chanel sussed by this book but obviously 2 sandbanks later my navigational skills were slightly out or is it that shallow thro some of the channels ? Anyway I gave in with the tide still dropping and flew back under the bridge and fished the rock walls that line the banks at Bli Bli opposite Eudlo creek. Found those walls had a good 2 meters of water that dropped off fairly quickly from the rocks. I was throwing D40fs and chubbies and pulled a couple of bream from the dirty water. Had a few good swirls and bait showers a little farther down in a deeper area that drops near the corner of the wall to 4 ms. I would have called them tailor but I didn't hook into a fish so I wasn't sure Bloody hell this place is shallow past Chambers Is. Is there a good channel thro there at the bottom of the tide? as I was taking that right turn and following the sticks I put the poor fishing down to the water quality but was I just a brissie tool when it comes to local knowledge, Any help appreciated. Cheers

Mate, the Maroochy is very difficult to navigate at low tide closer to the mouth. Sand banks everywhere and the water between them isnt much deeper. I remember beaching one of those hire boats at least 4 times trying to drive around near the mouht on low tide... I made a pact then and there never to try and navigate that river again at low tide

    Chief,

Have a look at the satellite photo on Google Maps. We had similar problems as you at Christmas and found the deeper water didn't necessarily sit within the markers.

Ended up waiting for a local to zoom by and just followed them.

PS. Got a couple of nice 'tings at the mouth so definitely worth the effort.

The M.river banks are constantly changing, particulalry around the mouth.....even regular users hit the sand from time to time!

    Chief,

Sounds like you will be getting up there regularly. I'm lucky enough to get to Marcoola every couple of months so hopefiully we will get a chance to catch up one day. "Camelion" has already put is hand up for a night fish for jew so might try to organise a night in March or April before it gets too cold.

Good luck with the exploring, its half the fun.

    G'day Chief

We went out last Sunday afternoon for a bit of a fish in the river, and agree the water quality was poor. As we had my little fella with us we just fished bait, being prawn and some livies. We came home with a feed of whiting, and the little fella had a great time.

The livies were a little hard to come by with the water quality, but knowing where to throw the net, and a few speculators later we had 20-25 fish, and one startled prawn.

Now I'm not going to give away all my secrets, but here's a few.

Look for livies around the Swan boat hire area. There are a few weed patches there that hold bait.

On Chambers Island, we often pull ashore and fish out from the playground. Good for whiting.

The rock walls where you mentioned are good for a number of species. I have caught gold and silver trevally, bream, and cod there.

After launching at Bradman Ave go the opposite direction from the Cod Hole, and you will run into a big mudbank that runs from near the boat ramp up to Eudlo creek, where you can see the markers. Have a look for grunter bream and whiting on this mudbank.

Yabbies can be pumped on the ocean side of the jet ski zone.

If you don't catch a fish in the first 10-15 mins, then move, and try a different location.

The Cod Hole, well I don't have the patience to sit there forever waiting, and I'm a daytime fisher, so I've never done any good there. There have been some good fish pulled from there.

At the start of Petrie Creek, there are some trees/scrub with rocks and oysters under them. Have a look around here for some Bream. I got smashed up there on Sunday, as the oysters are pretty sharp.

Final tip, fish a lightly as possible.

    Hope these few tips help.

    Cheers

Lapras... Dave, count me in. Just let us know . Family has a place in Coolum and we'll be using it every couple of weekends or even just overnights.

MickS .. Good on ya mate thanks for the tips. Unfortunately only got to fish the bottom off the tide the over day but I'm going to sus it out. I've got a few weeks holiday soon but the wife has to work so I'm going up for a few days solo and then I'll give it a good cross section of trips . Appreciate your tips

Mick is pretty much on the money. Worthy advice to follow that won't get him in too much trouble with the other locals .

    Re: Maroochy River

I appreciate the tips and realise there good starting points. I'll obviously run in a few of you fellas around the traps. I saw a dark blue tinnie a few weeks being towed thro Noosaville . It had ausfish stickers on it. Wasn't any of you blokes was it? I think it was a side console

    Re: Maroochy River

Its always good to scout out some new locations mate. I did that last Saturday but ended up with 5 stitches in my foot from finding a few unbalanced rocks. Had a great time searching around tho.

    Re: Maroochy River

Chief that spot round the mouth of petrie crk holds good flathead regularly, chuck a placcy at the banks and hop it back.Best advice I can give you is explore the areas nth of the bli bli bridge keep looking up that way and you should find some very productive banks when the tide is low.Water condition means a lot further up the river and you`ll need at least 3 weeks without heavy rainfall and the last 2hours of the runout early morn before the wind is up.Give the bait a miss up there as there are plenty of juveniles around that will pick most dead baits to pieces, you will find some amazing spots in the river if you look in that region.
