Thread: Cowan Cowan?

  1. #1

    Cool Cowan Cowan?

    Gday all!

We are taking the boat over to Moreton behind the Kluger 6th of March.

Does anyone know what the road is like from the ferry drop point north of the wrecks up to cowan?

Do you just drive up the beach all the way or do you have to go inland someway?

Can a boat be launched in front of Cowan?

Thanks and have a nice week!

Pretty sure there's a bypass there at Cowan Cowan (no vehicles allowed on beach). So you can't get all the way from the ferry to there. Not sure where it cuts in off the beach going north but think it is a fair way back from the town so you'd have a bit of off-beach track to negotiate. I wouldn't be too keen on tackling that with a kluger and a boat, myself, but I've never driven one so who knows...

    Hey Roobone,

You would be better dropping the boat in the water at the ferry drop off where it is a bit deeper. The bypass can be a bit hard to pass if you have a fully loaded boat and car. We had trouble towing a 12ft tinny with the patrol that were both fully loaded a few years back. It took us about 3hrs to get through the bypass but we flattened down the wheel ruts the whole way.

You need to go inland to get to Cowan. You can drop/retrieve the boat from the beach at Cowan (there is a path in the middle of the old army huts which is for the exclusive use of trailer boats)

Depending on the boat size, a good way to retieve is to drag the boat onto the sand (using the vechicle) and then winch onto the trailer. Saves the potential lost car

Thanks very much for the info chisel marto and maddac.
I might just drop boat at ferry and drive car and trailer through to cowan then pick it up there later.

Have you had the kluger on the beach before?

A mate bought his up to Fraser at the end of last year. Went along the hard beach OK but we ended up towing it through the whole of the eurong/mackenzie/central station loop. If it was towing anything it wouldn't have had a hope even on the open beach.

From what I remember Moreton western beach is typically softer than Fraser so make sure that your not setting up for a world of hurt.

    Cheers
    Craig
