I tried a run of dropnets last season for sandies with a variety of baits...pillies mullet pike whiting and squid.
Mullet was ok whiting was better pike between the two but squid was a real standout about 8 more than the whiting. Did get one muddie with the mulet tho.
    Pillies were similar to pike.

Try a bit of beef heart as an inclusion to your bait- Like a kebab to a drunk at 3am in the morning for crabs, they just love it

just about any type of meat will lure crabs into a pot, however avoid cod species and the lutjanis (fingermark, jacks etc) family, they all eat crabs and they will avoid more often than not.

Use an oily fish as your attractant (Mullet, tuna etc), but nothing wrong with using other types of fish as 'feeder' bait.

If leaving yout pots overnight, you need enough bait to keep them chewing instead of looking for the way out

a full bait bag can get expensive if you have a few pots out, so using prime bait sparingly, and filling up with other stuff like pike is fine

    cheers

Smashed Crabs List of Top Crab Baits

no 1 > Shark or Roo
no 2 > Roo or Shark
no 3 > Everything else except Reef Fish

If you are serious about catching crabs and crab on a regular basis nothing can top Shark and Roo , crabs will eat anything at time's , sometimes crabs will enter a pot just for a bone with no goodness left in it.

If it is the magic bullet you seek don't waste your time with anything else , Roo and Shark out catch any other bait known to man , oh and don't forget the humble mullet as a third place contender

In areas that are loaded with crab they will eat a smelly thong ( as in foot )

Im sure i will hear the storeys flooding in saying but i caught this many and that many on reef fish or what ever else , thats fine and i beleive you , what im saying is there are bait and then there are baits and oils aint oils

    whooaaahhhaaa mm going now
