hi all
new to the forum so this is an old trip but it was this time last year so thought i'd post it anyway.
took the missus out to borumba to try and get a toga or two. got on the water at 4.30 and headed to the timber. tied a 'walk the dog' style popper on for her, and showed her how to work the popper. handed it to her, and 'BOOF' she was on straight away. after a lot of discussion - me saying keep the rod tip down and don't let it jump, and her saying get the bloody net - she managed to land her first toga, a nice 74cm specimen.
after this excitement, i quickly set the fly rod up so i could land my first toga on fly. didn't take long before one smashed my popper after a shocking cast into a tree hitting every branch on the way through. geez did it do some mickey flips before it headed back into the water, where i managed to get it to the side of the boat before it decided it didn't want it's photo taken. not huge, probably about 40cm but still, would have been my first on fly - oh well better luck next time i guess.
here's a pic of trace's first toga
