    Fishing at Inskip Point

Just returned home from my second 3 day trip in 4 weeks at Inskip Point. Iam a regular vistor.

Didnt catch a fish on either trip. Live and dead worms used, pillies, soft plastics and a few yabbies as well.

Now Im the first to admit that Iam not the greatest fisherman, I have much to learn however there are alot of recreational fisherman like myself who are not having any success in the area.
This can be proved by chatting to any number of people as you drive up the beach or camp at night.

Surely the Trawlers returning home through the Wide Bay Bar one after another with their nets out or the " Professional Fisherman from Rainbow " who net the area for the female? mullet to export and waste everything else ( I have seen the results left on the beach as they leave ) are destoying any chance of an enjoyable weekend of fishing. A few fish for a feed would do me fine. I personnally enjoy the chase more than the feed anyway.

Unfortunately nothing is going to change any time soon in regards to professional fishing regs however Id love to hear if anybody else shares my opinion.

It is a brilliant place to get away for the weekend however as one of the pro wormers said to me over the weekend the ocean is a desert.

I look forward to the day that I have some success.

hey ya going mate,i see know one has replied to your thread so i'll give it a go.
i have a bit more of a positive veiw on fishing this area and i really cant agree with anyone saying over fishing by pro's or the mullet pro's taking all the recreational fisho's bait as a reason to their poor performances to learning a new enviroment.
brisbane is the most populated waterway in this state and continually performs all year round, argument over.
as for fishing the area,i did a few camping trips their with poor results until i got up their for fishing only weekend and spent a few nights around some likely looking spots and had great results from areas that i got nothing in the day.i then returned in the day with the knowledge of recent captures and caught fish thier too.i put it down to having the cinfidence to produce.
if this fails hire a local guide and take in their knowledge for your next trip.
i think your looking through a glass half empty rather then half full.
the ocean is a desert, so find the nearest palm tree and thats where everyone will be

Hey mate, thanks for the reply.
My words at the end regarding the desert quote were a touch negetive, any time spent up in that area is always enjoyable.
I agree with your comments on looking into a local guide to improve on results. Do you know anyone in the area. It would be money well spent.

In regards to your pro fisherman comments, I will have to disagree.
Why does one of Queenslands most popular 4WD, camping and fishing destinations have to compete wih land based commerical fishing interests. Surely both our retail / international seafood markets can be represented by other areas which extend outside such a well populated tourist destination.
The ratio of local commercial license holders compared to permit paying holiday makers is enormous. Yet the effect felt by multiple well orchestrated netting sweeps is just as a large. The amount of undersized Whiting, Dart, Bream, Tailor and Jew for example left on the sand is both sad and frustrating to watch.
In my opinion it doesnt quite add up.

In the mean time alittle more research and perhaps an outside fishing charter will be on the cards.
