    hammer heads

i have not posted for a while so i thought i would put up a report on the last few weeks .
schultz canal last week and the week before : there has been lots off prawns in schultz atm greezies and a few tigers , we got just under half a kg off greezies and sat under the bridge using them for bait , got a lot off bream between 20-35cm and a 54cm gold spot cod . last week we got a lot of bream same as the week before and a 90cm bully under the bridge on a baloon i also got a 55cm flathead in the cast net with the prawns .
yesterday : i headed out with my unkle (dave) in his boat (3.75m), we went out the front ( just out from the green zone) to test out our new shark reels ( tyrnos 30 ) and i have to say they work well , really well . first up dave gets hit on his bonito and the 50lb braid is screaming off his reel ( drag on full lock ) for a good 2 minute run before it slowed and turned around , the battle lasted for about 15-20mins before it emerged and the first thing we saw was its huge dorsal fin and tail sticking out off the water thats when i realised it was a hammer head , a 2.5m hammer head .
we managed to get a rough messurement and tag him boatside , i tried getting the hook out for a while with no luck and after it nearly bit me(it eye butted me ) i decided to cut the hook since it was in the corner off his mouth and he swam off in good health . dave was wrapped , i would be to if my first shark was a 2.5m hammer head .
after that all we had left for bait were a few 7-8inch mullet so out they went . dave put out a 8lb line to try for some better sized bait and got hit a little while later which ended up with him almost getting spooled twice , it ran towards nudgee then turned and headed for bribie while it was on its way from nudgee to bribie when the shark line starts screaming again , i grabed it set the hook and off i go , about 5 mins later another hammer comes to the surface , it was only a baby but my first hammer head it was also a male and he went 1150mm , dave got bitten off while i was pulling in the hammer .
it was a great morning out the front pretty much glassed out till 11ish and a few pb's , it doesnt get much better than that .

    cheers nico

    Re: hammer heads

in the last few weeks we have got them in the pine , schultz seems to have a lot off pups under 1m and the hammers where out the front off the pine so there are a few around , the brissie river has produced a few bullies latly aswell from other reports .

    cheers nico
