    Hinze Dam

    G'day all,

Well, it's been about 4 years since I've even been close to freshwater, and I think it's time to get away from the bream, flathead and whiting and try something a bit different.

I've never been freshwater fishing before, and I'm looking to try up at Hinze Dam sometime in the near future. I have absolutely no idea about bait, fish to target, line size or the better fishing spots along Hinze Dam, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Kaidon

First off you need a permit purchased from one of the following outlets.
    Nerang Disposals Camping & Outdoor Store 10 Spencer Road, Nerang (07) 5596 4434 Miami Bait and Tackle 4/ 2088 Gold Coast Highway, Miami (07) 5572 8270 Doug Burt's Tackle World 15 Nind St, Southport (07) 5531 0755 Southport Fishing & Dive Centre 95 Marine Parade, Southport (07) 5531 2333
All monies go to the local stocking assn. I believe that they are attempting to get an online facility up and running but havent heard anything if it is a goer yet.Fees are $5 for a weekly or $40 for a year.
    Cheers

Kaiden, you will need to target Bass and by-catch will be Saratoga. Lures are a popular option and any type will catch bass but particularly spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits such as Jackells or g-vibes are very reliable. Near the edge shallow divers or surface type lures. Soft plastics are also an option. The bait fishers there use freshwater live prawns which you can purchase from aquarium stores. Nerang camping sell worms.
Your bream, flathead or whiting gear will do the job fine but i suppose the bream gear would be the ideal.
Ramps in western arm (Numinbah valley) or eastern arm( Mudgeeraba) which also fish fine off the bank. If you have a boat its electric only and you petrol motors must be removed. Kayaks are a good option. You can Google the exact ramp positions. Wall and original picnic areas are currently closed.
Thats it in a nutshell. Search the post on this forum and in fresh reports for lots of extra useful info. Good luck! - Richard
