    tailor and squid

well havent been out in a while so took the girl friend and her friend out for a "boating trip" she made me promise i wouldnt be fishing as she doesnt like the smell hahaha girls and boats dont mix most of the time hahaha but i always take the rod just in case.

lucky i did because as i got close to the house at Moreton i spotted a school of tailor chopping up and managed to get 12 so that was good i then dropped the girls at the sandhills for a swim and went and chased some squid managed to get 45 with a couple of biggies thrown in.

on the way in to pick up the girls i noticed a big school of gar so out came the bait net, managed to get about 200 gar so i thought great fresh bait, headed straight back to where we got the tailor in the morning and first bait was out at about 7pm and were the fish thick even the girlfriend and her friend even ended up catching them on hand lines you didnt even have to cast out they where just smashing the bait next to the boat after about 8.30 they'de had enough and came in. Ended up with 41 tailor biggest going 4lb. Its great to be out fishing again

Thats the way to do it. Slip in a quick fish around a social trip and score nicely. Some of those Squid are great size. What sort of jig do you use?

Nice catch there Jack. Sounds like you may have converted the girls to fishing. Good size in the squid as well.

Not a big fan of Tailor myself but keep the odd few for the neighbour.
I wash all my fillets in salt, Tailor that we have frozen after being rinsed in the salt water by all reports has been more than ok on the chew.

mate smoked tailor for tea last night tailor for lunch and dinner tonight i love eating it, it fed both families so about 10 people i could of easily caught the limit but figured i had enough, i prefer a 2inch orange prawn jig but for big squid a whole gar/pike put on a fish spike squid jig is awesome, tailor doesnt get time to be frozen in my house and know i have some great sand crab bait

    Nice catch mate.

So you give away the crabs to neighbors, but you eat the tailor? I reckon youve got it the wrong way round. lol.

Good one on getting the girls involved. My missus started that way, and now she wants her own rod. I got her the pink special.

    cheers

    Very nice session.

Get yourself 1 of those little cryovac machines.

At a mates place at Tin Can last year we had fresh and cryovac 2 months frozen tailor fillets. Not a lot of difference.

Great catch mate, gee I would hate to see how many fish you would catch if you actually planned to go fishing. Enjoy the feed.
