    A Few Jack and Barra

Saturday seen myself and a couple of mates head up to a favoured spot for a fish. It had been a testing week at work, it's been a while since I last wet a line and Barra season had opened days ago. I was dead keen to say the least.

We got an early start to make the most of the tide window and on arrival cast lures to begin the days session. This creek has a reputation amongst us for a fish on the first cast but unfortunately this day history could not repeat and the first catch didn't come til my 4th cast, and it was only a dirty Rock Cod at that!

A little further on and I'm on again. Quality fish this time with a nice Barra however the fish found its freedom with a premature release beside the boat. We left that particular hole with the plan to return later to soak some livies there.

Continuing up the system we cast lures for no more success so anchored up in a chosen hole to have lunch and put out some freshly caught mullet through the change of tide. Our lunch was rudely interupted by three good Jacks and many more stolen baits. Don't quote me but the Jacks went 51, 44 and 42cm. ( I didn't care because I didn't catch any ). An undersize Barra came from the same hole.

With the bite gone there we poked back down to a bend renowned for producing quality Barra. Sadly, not much happening here. I was busted off by a good fish and one of the other two got a Catty which was the only highlight.

So it was with the distant roll of thunder and a darkening horizon that we decided to call it a day and head for home. Kept the two smaller Jack and released all else.

    Cheers, Andrew

Yeah Ron, he was a bit dark, we reckon it come from the swamp. And yes there was a bit too much fresh still present, the reason why we feel the creek didn't 'fire' like we wanted it too.

mate it will fire! just find where there is some fresh running off the bank, out of a gutter even if it's only a trickle, & work it with lure's you should have plenty of fun.

glad I'm ot the only one who had a tough weekend. After a total of 20 hrs on the water casting and travelling approximately 100nm, I donutted. I cast every lure imaginable and the best I could manage was a couple of half hearted swipes from a few rats. Tried everything, poppers, sp's, deep divers, mid water diver, shallow divers, vibes, slices, everything I had in my arsenal for nothing but sunburnt hands (only place I forgot to put suncream), sore feet and donating some jewellry to a couple of trees.
