    12 month boat passage closure

We'll try this again as the last post seemed to disapear. We've all seen the signs at Fisherman Is. Saying No Parking and No Fishing. I thought I would follow up with the Port of Brisbane Corporation and find out exactly what is happening. The POBC have released articles stating while the construction of the duplicate bridge beside Capt. Bishop bridge is about to commence there is a total restriction zone in the area. As from May 2010 the fisherman Is. boat ramp will not have access to the Brisbane river via the passage for a period of twelve months. I have spoken to 3 people there including the project manager and I've asked for actual documentation to be E-mailed to me but I'm yet to see it although the closure has been advertised in Quest newspapers 3/2/2010. This not only effects river anglers but all who normally access the bay via the brisbane river. I have asked on behalf of the land based angler weather he will eventually have access to the rock walls where many have previously fished and at the moment there is no real comment which is a shame. The only alternative the POBC has offered is for ramp users to use Colmslie ramp up the river but this ramp is at capacity now on the weekends and could not handle the amount of traffic the fisherman Is. ramp normally endures. Another bad luck to the recreational angler .

I recon this is such a large imposition on boat users that a temporary ramp should have been constructed somewhere on the river side of the bridge, either on Whyte or Fishermans Island.

Mike... Your spot on mate. They haven't just made this decision this week.

Lucky Phill .. Recieved a few lines back from Rosie Field and nothing was revealed that I already know. There has been no consultation or alternatives given except use Pinkenbar and Colmslie ramps. The amount of money that is generated in this state by recreational boating and fishing and assoc. industries and we are treated like crap. I'm just ringing Paul Lucas who is the local member. The port is in his area. I think its a case of put up a stink. The more that do it the better

There would be no way that they could put in a temp ramp just for us, needing dredging, paving, carparks and land, just for 12 months. I suggest we ask the Police if we could use their ramp, I'm sure they would be happy, secure parking.

Its 10 Ks from the Colmslie ramp which is a fair motor if you want to go further downstream to fish.

I'll wait til it's finished and the ramp open again.

Greg it sounds like the ramp will be open if you want to access the bay via the Darcy light route. The info does state that access to the walls and under the bridges will now be a restricted zone to fisherman. This ruling is permanent and will not change even after construction ceases. I feel sorry for the landbased angler who takes his son to this spot on a sunday morning. Its one of those places that has a bit of structure and holds a number of species. I've seen nice fish come from this area. So where to now ?

Well what I be doing is contacting the media about it be sending the e-mails to both sides of all levels of goverment's and the goverments departments ( unfornutlay phone call's don't work at least with e-mails least it documented )
also might pay to Give 4BC Fishing show a ring this coming weekend about it
Also I know that Sentor Ron Boswell live 's in the area might be able help you
    I hope this helps

In life, start off wrong and you'll finish wrong. Put just one skeleton in the closet and you'll have to put another one in to hide the first, and so it goes.
But start off right and you'll finish right. There's no comeback when you stick to the truth - and no skeletons!

    Phill

    Thank you for your enquiry.

Maritime Safety Queensland is aware, through the development process, that the Port of Brisbane Corporation is planning to construct new replacement road bridges across the Whyte Island Boat Passage. The nature of the works has been assessed as requiring the closure of the waterway in way of the existing bridge to ensure marine safety during construction. As part of the process of obtaining approval for the closure of the area, the Port of Brisbane has been requested to conduct a community notification and consultation process prior to requesting formal closure of the area by MSQ. I suspect that you may have heard of the closure through the consultation process.

The Port of Brisbane Corporation (info@portbris.com.au) will be best placed to accurately advise you of the latest timing and duration of the proposed works, which we understand will begin about May 2010. Notices to Mariners will be issued closer to the event when full details of the scope of works and closure are known.

    Kind Regards,

Funny , I did recieve a email from POB stating a submission had to be made to Qld. Maritime Safety for the closure but POB had already released a media advertisement saying there would be a total 12 closure . On my first approach to POB I was told there was a total 12 month ban as well. May have been counting their chickens before they've hatched. Red speckle I have sent e mails. Just keep chasing it up

I'm confused, the only sign i saw was on the NE corner (otherside of bridge away from ramp) and it said closures from 2009 (may i think).

Razgo- The POB has stated their intention in press releases. As per usual govt dept. and corporations tend to slowly show their hands hoping the public complacency will see their objectives thro without protest.

Re: 12 month boat passage closure

ah ok, that would make sense then .

so when they do close it how will they close it? as in how will they prevent people boating through there?

I am planning on coming through there end of this week or next week.

Re: 12 month boat passage closure

    Found this while googling around.

    http://www.portbris.com.au/Portals/0...oatpassage.pdf

    What does intermittent mean?
The passage might be open sometime? When?
Turn up and hope for the best?
Launch and find the passage closed in your absence?
Will the public be notified of the closure dates?
Online site with the dates listed?

For a company who say they,re into consulting with the local community, I'm finding it difficult finding any detailed info.

Re: 12 month boat passage closure

maybe they should open up the rock wall on the reclaimed land area to land based fishos or back along the riverside where all the fences went up everywhere then build a ramp on the water police side to compensate the poor ol boaties getting shafted once again .

Better idea would be to close it at night 9pm til 4am weekdays only , less port traffic and boat traffic

Colmslie will not cope with any more boat traffic at all.
