Putting On New Line

wHAT IS THE BEST AND EASIEST WAY TO PUT NEW LINE ON REEL.
MAYBE SOMEONE HAS A HOMEMADE IDEA OR BOUGHT SOMETHING TO DO THE JOB.

I just use a wet rag to keep plenty of pressure on the line as I wind it onto the spool... Nice and simple.

I just tie a knot onto my reel and wind it on, through the guides on the rod so it's ready to go.

Or when I put braid on, I read that it's best to put the braid in a bucket of water as you wind it on, as it reduces the amount of friction.

i jam a long handle screwdriver in my vice, stick the new spool over the shank of the screwdriver, and with the reel mounted on the rod wind the line on through the guides etc then i chuck a nice big swivel on the end and some heavy mono made into a loop, hand it to one of my kids and get them to ride off down the road holding onto the loop, when they get to the end of the spool i yell for them to ride back to me nice and slow, they've done this plenty of times, so they know just how much tension to keep on the rod, i tell them i need the rod to be just a little bent..... the last time i reeled in my ten year old daughter, she jumped off her bike and flapped around on the lawn like a landed fish...................... kids, got to love 'em.

To wind off old line or backing I use a cordless drill with an old spool attached to it. To put on the new line join it to the backing with an albright knot (the albright is the best knot here because you can cut the tags off flush with the knot) and then drop the spool of new line into a bucket of JUST lukewarm water. Then wind the line onto the reel using moderate pressure as it goes through your fingers. As you do this make sure the spool in the bucket spins, unwinding the line so that it doesn't have any twists in it. The warm water causes the line to expand slightly and when it cools on your reel it contracts and sits tightly on the reel. It's especially important to do this when putting new line on a big sidecast reel. If the line is not tightly wound onto the reel you can get some horrible tangles when casting

I use a version of this but use a larger screwdriver and an old rag. Put the spool on the screwdriver blade and jam it in the vice which has the jaws covered with an old rag. The handle of the screwdriver holds it in place and you can create as much friction between the rag and the spool as you want. Not as fun as using the kids but by standing back from it a few metres you can get fairly consistant tension.

I use a steel rod and use my feet ( withs socks or shoes on) to tension the line as i respool. By putting pressure on the spool with my feet the line goes in tighter.

Or you can make one with a tensioner or pay

i can just picture that.
When i was young, many moons ago, i can remember my neighbour running the line around his fence line on top of the posts.
when it was all on the posts, and iam talking the old 40 perch block, he would then tie to the reel and start walking around the yard.
I usually use the bucket of water but havnt tried warm water.
