Interesting.. All of my best fishing has been done at night.
I have done a fair bit of fishing in my time and catch a few fish, but I am yet to have much success at night. Sure I've caught a few Jacks at night on lures but generally speaking my night time fishing is cr@p. I usually fish from about 8pm-11pm, once the kids are in bed. Any tips? Generally fishing jetties with lights. Don't care if the fish is edible, the better the fight the better. Maybe Bull sharks?? In Ballina?? Thanks.

I suspect that this is bit late as a general rule. Sure you will catch fish at those times but if you can fish at around sundown for a couple of hours and if that happens to coincide with a tide change, then you are in with a big chance.
Nothing is guaranteed but I do scratch my head wondering why people will go home at dusk just when there may be a tide change on that day. In winter, I will usually go out in my boat into Moreton Bay at around 4 pm when there is still daylight to see the waves that I am hitting and then fish through to about 8 pm.
Strangely, within an hour or so of my arriving at the fishing grounds where there might be a half dozen boats, nearly all will have gone home. Quite silly really. They have sat through the fast running tidal run in the day time but leave to go home for tea when the conditions are exquisite for fishing.
If people are worried about traveling on the bay at night time, they need not be. Usually by about 8 pm in winter, everything has calmed down (not always but usually) and the boat trip home can be a awesome pleasure in its own right.
The only other real peril in night fishing is that sometimes the conditions are so lovely under the stars that it is tricky to force oneself to go home.
