The answer was there before. lol

Come to think of it. I get looked after by these guys with good discounts on plastics at times.

Maybe I am now a Big W Pro Angler ?

Get me ready for me to plaster every thread on the net about soft plastics.

How do you think this will look on my boat ?

Hardie - I believe the details in this link ( http://www.fishtec.co.za/downimaging...20downscan.htm ) are relevant & worth viewing when making the decision between both brands

Good luck with your purchase - Scotto

Hi Hardie, and everyone else who can help please.
Am a new member, so hope you don't mind me joining into this thread.

How did you go? Did you buy the Humminbird 798cx SI or the Lowrance HDS7?
I don't know much about fish finders at all and have been reading up online about them, and the side imaging features of the 798cx seem pretty good. I will be very interested to hear from you [or anyone else] what they are like and what you think of them, and the best price and place to get them from? Is the side imaging feature as good as it's cracked up to be?
I am a learning novice, having bought my first boat in Aug 09, fitted with an Eagle Cuda 128 which is an old and basic fish finder compared to today's models and technology it seems. My Cuda cables have broken down and because of this I have been looking around to replace it. Managed to get a cable which will keep my Cuda going for a while, but now that I have been looking, I know I will be thinking about upgrading until I do, so I would appreciate any and all help and advice I can get if you don't mind.
Obviously there are heaps of choices between brands, models and features, and with my lack of experience I really don't know which way to go. From what I have seen so far, I have liked the Lowrance HDS5, and the Humminbird 798cx SI both with GPS, and particularly because of the side imaging feature on the 798cx, but the price tags are certainly a big jump up from my old Cuda and a bit like going from a Moped to a Hummer!
I am not made of money, but generally try to come up with reasons to justify 'investing' in good gear if I can, for which I need your help. I don't want to go too overboard, [okay that's crap, would love to if money wasn't an option] but I don't to get down the creek and wish I had bought a better one either. I do like the idea of sneaking around with the side imaging though.....

My boat is a 4.2m Stacer Nomad Sports with Mercury 30hp outboard, and more suited for fishing dams and estuaries, including coastal bays etc, both fresh and salt water.

Also, can anyone help me out with what type of transducer I should get?
From my understanding the dual frequency 83/200kHz transducers give a wider spread so I would think would be more suited for dam and estuary fishing, and the 50/200kHz is is better for deeper water offshore? Hence I was looking at going for a 83/200kHz transducer. Would this be right? Anything else you think I need to know would be gladly accepted and greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!
