Is the Moreton Bay Sandcrab season over already

    Hi,
I have heard and read in reports that there s very few sand crabs being caught in the bay at present and I have had a few very ordinary trips, but I am curious if anyone thinks we may get another good run before they ban the dillies at easter
or am I just waisting my time.?

I normally crab banana banks, coochiemudlo etc and would like to get a few more before the ban.

    Thanks
    Scott

Scott, the sandies always go off early dec, then reappear in numbers late feb, as Rosco can tell you, he keeps records, and they also go to shallower grounds, last year i was still getting sandies in numbers in june
    cheers

    g'day scott,
i looked in my diary the other day and around this weekend i was gettin bout 10 keepers for an overnite soak of the pots, around the 20th of feb was gettin 15 for overnite soak then around the 15th of march gettin 40 odd for the same soak, then april gettin around 50 - 70 for the same soak, havn't been out for sandies for a while now but will give it a go in 2 weeks, but not xpecting much better than a feed of around the 15,hope this helps you mate, heard a few weeks ago the pro crabbers where hittin peel hard but never give it a go,might be worth a look, hope this helps you a bit

Thanks Robsue and Rosco, we will give it another shot probably in about a months time (early march) and see how we go.

I remember in previous years (Jan 07+08) were usually good trips, bringing home 15 to 18 per trip., but this jan has not been as rewarding.

I have mullet ready to go.

Sandies in June sound good too.By that time I will be using my blue collapsable crab ezy pot's. I can't see why they would still work I will just leave them in for a longer period of time before I check them.

    Thanks again.
