HI,
I have decided to do my own servicing, as my motor has just past the three year old mark, and anyway, Haines have not been too good at looking after my motor with warranty anyway.
It is a piece of cake to do an oil change with filters, and changethe low pressure fuel filter and gearbox oil.
Decided to replace the impellor, as the motor has about 150 hours on it.
The old impellor still looked brand new, but I replaced it anyway.
Trouble is, I put the new one in the wrong way round!!!!!
I started the motor, it made a few funny sounds, then settled down to idle, but was not pumping water unless I revved the engine.
I shut it down, then that night realised what I had done.
I pulled the leg off next morning, but couldn't see what way around the impellor was , as the housing came off and left the impellor on the shaft, with the arms straight out again.
I reinserted it the right way around, but it would not pump enough for the telltale at an idle.
I pulled it to bits again, and everything looked ok.
Put it back together again, but still not sufficiuent pressure for the telltale to work at idle. If I ran the motor at 2000 revs, it came out of the telltale ok, but stopped when I dropped it back to idle. Also, at 2000 rpm, it was not as strong a telltale as it used to be.
I did this whole operation twice more with the same result.
I ended up replacing the old impellor, when everything went back to normal.
Good strong jet from the telltale at idle.
The new impellor still appeared to be as new when I removed and replaced it three times.
Any clues as to what is going on?
Could I have buggered it from putting it in the wrong way round?
No comments about idiots or doing your own servicing, thankyou.
Dave.
