    Currumbin Rock

Friday evening .... spinning for tailor with perfect conditions.
Bought some slice-metals off e-bay ($20 for 7) and had a hook up on the 2nd cast. As i lifted the chopper up onto the ledge he got loose, only to find that the ebay lures had the worst trebles known to man, and had bust off. So I have had to add $18 to my lure price for the Mustads I got to replace the rubbish!!
No more takes on lures, so switched to pillies on a paternoster rig off the bottom.
Suddenly I was the only guy on the rock who was catching
A couple of tailor, and a Kingie (just legal) .... the other guys all went home hungry, but at least the family and I had a decent dinner!

I am new to Australia (from South Africa) ... so still learning the local spots. Anybody got stories of big fish taken from Currumbin Rock? It seems like a perfect spot on the smaller tides.

Have a look at Anglers Connection between 6th and 7th Av Palm Beach. They are selling Raiders with decent hardware 4 for $20 at the moment.

Congrats on your first trip there. Be careful though (as always I guess..)
There was a guy washed off the rocks at Currumbin whilst fishing last year and drowned.

You might want to replace the split rings also if the trebles were crap. At the end of the day you still have 20 lures for $25 which isn't too bad if you can turn them into fish.

just keep one eye on the water, I watched a guy get swept off his feet by a surge and dragged face and chest first across the barnacles... and that was on a 'flat' day. He was well sliced up....

thanks for all the tips on the swells ........ yip - u gotta keep your eyes open there!! Not to mention the idiots who do their sea-swim training right through the cast-zone
One of these days you'll see a headline of a swimmer dragged to shore with a treble in the jaw

    Tx Andrew
I have read a lot of your posts, and am pretty keen to take you up. You have the touch for that area mate !!
Will let you know when I can head down there .... also your NSW reg's allow Jew to be kept when a bit smaller than QLD ........ so more chance of a good feed for the family too

    Tx for offer

just be careful with the nsw versus qld regs. just because you caught the fish in nsw under nsw laws, does not mean you are able to bring it into qld.

that is my understanding of the laws anyway - if you get pulled over in qld with a 50cm jew in the car and a couple of fishing rods on the roof, I doubt you will be able to prove you caught it in nsw (even if that was an acceptable excuse)

and dont forget the nsw licence. its heavily policed around the border, cos its easy money.

yeah tx for the tips guys ..... i do have my NSW license. But will have to check out the fish-in-the-car scenario !! $250 per fish will be a bit hard to explain to the missus :-)

Robvee a guy caught a cobia off those rocks at chrissy as i hooked the one tailor myself. Good spot there. Big brim on the norther end in the surf but trying to land them onto the rocks is a hit and miss. Have fun mate.

    Re: Currumbin Rock

mmmmmmmm .....cobia around Christmas?? That makes sense coz another guy next to me brought in a half-a-tailor around then, and we were wondering what chewed it off!! Well ... it is 5 minute from my house .... so I expect many more stories in the future off that spot :-)
