    Spotties at green sunday 5pm

Shot out to green to try out my boat repair after 5 hours under tinny and a huge cut out to fix cracked hull. Dropped it in water the next day and crack, crack 2 i heard as it went in. After i shed a tear i shot out to at least see how fast the water came in after the repair that cost $300 and half a day. Caught my first legal parrot in the shallows of green and then noticed the birds everywere looking for pelagic action. So i kept fishing and watching the birds and then they all shot into the water in unison with 3 tinnies after them. We all tryed for about an hour chasing and the others left and i kept going. After loosing 3 slugs to casting my baitcaster to fast in the moment i finally came near enough to just plug it in and wind half speed as i hoped i was on. A few blistering runs and in the net with his mates beside him as it came to the boat. Kept going for a while more with not much feul and a few litres of water in the hull (very lumpy by now and with water in the hull what a day) came up trumps again and then thought i better get in before i sink as the cracked hull has damadged the wires to the bilge pump. Back to the ramp happy but frustrated that this tinny will never come good ever again but thats fishin eh. So 2 firsts for me today with first parrot and 2nd spotty from our own bay.

Mate, those welds would have done the Titanic proud, how on earth did they fail, or am I missing something!!
I tell you what mate, I love your style, you've got a leaky boat, no bl** dy bildge pump, yet you persisted, and it paid off.
    Well done mate, well done!!
    Cheers

Good to see some spots being caught!

I too have a split hull and often get it welded up only for it to split again and again.

Answer, get 2 reliable bilgies and just pump it out.

    Cheers

    Nice Spotties and Tuskfish

It might be time to say goodbye to the tinny and get yourself a polycraft, at least you won't have to keep welding up cracks

    cheers tim

It seems they all split Tim

A mate of mine just had to have a split welded up in his 4.1 poly

He was trying to find out why he kept getting water in the bilge

He put some water in the boat and watched it run out through the split

Not a happy chappy, only got to get the plastic mix wrong and trouble.

    Cheers,
    John.

John i agree that any boat can split, it just seem's that tinny's split a lot more often than poly's and fibreglass boats, repairs on poly and fibreglass also come up pretty good unlike the frankenstein looking repair on ddobson's Stessco.

    cheers tim

Mate once they start spliting forget about it get rid of the boat or just use up the river. I had a tinnie with one crack turned into six really quick and i almost sank the boat sold it for two hundred bucks and the guy who bought it of me fibreglassed the bottom dont no how it turned out but maybe a option.

its funny how alot of alloy boats split (not realy) do your self a favour and stand at a boat ramp the owners of glass boats don't let thier hulls hit the ramps like tinnie owners do,this must cause some of the problems.

From what I heard the alloy crystal structure breaks down from flexing. The whole area around where it cracked could be weakened and once it starts to crack you can weld it but it will only let go in the next weakest point

Thanks boys for the info. It has cracked in a new spot as the weld seems to hold up but do you think i could see the new crack. I have had the crack for about a year or so but it didn't bother me with the bilge pump going but all the moisture in the hull has buggered up all the electrics as well. The boat actually cracked from being let off the trailor and 2 wheels at the back pushed the panel up as it had the front leccy added and another battery and it was to heavy for the trailor wheel pattern. It handles huge swell no probs just off the damb trailor that was designed for a light tinny not a full bottom and all the extras. Cheers
