    Talking Moreton Bay Fishing

Went fishing on Saturady morning, left Manly harbour 4am headed to the sandhills to chase whitting, there for 1hr got nothing eaten by sand fly's....LOL
Left there heading to the Rous to target squid...ended up with 25 nice size squid. Headed to the whitting ground in the rous.....ended up with 63 good size whitting. Back at the boat ramp by 1pm.....spend the afternoon cleaning whitting and squid.....good days fishing over all.

    Re: Moreton Bay Fishing

    Good report. Thanks.

I have never fished for squid but caught one on my bait at Mud Island last week and then sent him back down as bait. The result was immediate and a nice snapper resulted.

So now I want to catch some fresh squid myself to use as bait. Have never had much success at Mud Island before using frozen squid as bait.

What is the secret, please? What sort of terrain will produce squid? Deep water or sand banks? Still water or running? Etc.

I assume that a squid jig is the way to go?

    Many thanks, in anticipation.

    Re: Moreton Bay Fishing

Went fishing on tuesday morning got to the fishermans island boat ramp at 4.00am, lined up for a few mins boats coming from everywhere boat ramp was full the car park was filling up fast. I put the boat in and headed to the m8 beacon boats everywhere dropped the slug go a hit 1 mackerel then another 1 and a another then we had a boat dropped the anchor right besided us all the ocean in the world then drag it though all of us trying not to hit any boat on the way through then he wasn't happy with that so he did it again so no hits after that so i left there and chasing the birds got 2 mackerel then no more so my mate said lets go get some flathead because he never used hardbody lures before so went back to the brisbane river and got two 48cm trolled for a bit more then left there got back to the ramp about 12.30 not bad days fishing after all. cheers

Yep like rosco said. I just lower a squid jig to near the bottom, put the rod in a holder and set the drag light and drift along, if they are there they'll jump on. There seems to be lots around at the moment.

I'm after whiting tips, I'm getting a few each trip, but nothing like the size or amount a lot of guys are getting. I'm just drifting around near the sandhills, or in the Rous anywhere from 5 foot to 30 foot. Using gulp worms or squid strips, light lines, small long shank hooks, small sinker to a swivel, 40 - 50cm trace - 4lb. Anything I'm missing???

    Cheers,

    Matt
