    Fishing Fiji

I Recently had the good fortune to fish with a charter operation based from Musket Cove Fiji. After a rough begining where 2 consecutive days of charters were cancelled due to lack of numbers on the Wednesday it finally happened.

We departed the resort at 8 am for a 4 hour charter in a boat that was old but seaworthy. After traveling for half an hour we were in water over 1000m deep with flocks of birds all around and the water boiling with tuna. On that day we managed to boat 2 yellowfin and one large bonito.

I had such a great time on the Wednesday I also fished the Thursday as well. The weather conditions were nothing less than spectacular and the fish were even more co operative than the previous day. The four of us on the charter including my 9 year old son scored dollies of about 12 kilos one a piece.

There were numerous other hookups on the day but as luck would have it these fell into the premature release catagory. The guys from the dolphin star charters worked hard to put us onto the fish and were very professional. It is a pleasure to fish with guys so passionate about their fishing.

can i ask when you went & were you fishing inside or out side or on the barrier reef ? I'm heading over there in a week for a few days & am looking into a charter in the same area.
    cheers

    Re: Fishing Fiji

Hi Rick. I was there around the end of January this year. Went outside the reef on the Dolphin Star charters who are based at Musket cove resort. The area we were fising was the open ocean where the water depth was in excess of 1000m. The best time of year to fish there is apparently June, July but from what I saw it was quite spectacular. Send me a PM if you want more information
