Thread: A couple of Spotties

    Re: A couple of Spotties

Should have gone a bit further north Craig. They were thick as off Shark Point near the main shipping channel. Plenty of boats working them over yesterday. Daughter got her first spottie on her own yesterday so she was wrapped but not impressed with me on the gaff.

Thanks Greg, Bugga if only I'd gone that bit extra................
Best Spottie season in years, so bound to stumble on them eventually.

Going off Mooloolaba/Coolum tomorrow so might see Spot or Spanish ?

Congrats to your daughter, she will remember this Mackerel season for the one that didn't get away or did it at first ?. What was the issue with your gaffing ? Air swings ? fish mutilation ?

    Cheers

Pressure got to me - few too many attempts before it hit the deck

It has been an excellent season for Spotties - I heard a rumour that Caloundra is now the pick after a long stay at Old Woman Island

nice work horse. hopefully i can get out and givem a bash next week. ahaeard they are a bit quiet now at the moment but should improve later in theweek. dont know if many people went out due to 25knot winds today.

Ive been told to remove my trebles and put single lure hooks with the larger eye on on my slugs. Interested to know if this helps hookup rate or just helps keeps the hooks in the fish. what would be your thoughts?

I still run trebles on Spotties. They have a boney mouth that can be hard to get a hook into. Singles definitly mean less fish dropped but also a few less hooked up

Great spots mate especially because of the impromptue go at them. Has been a great season for them for me too. Found them very selective after a while and not hitting metal or even a fly with light wire. But a change to a fly with no wire let sink below the school would attract an instant biteoff. Managed to pull one on wire in the end though. Ben
