South Passage Bar Conditions

Am heading out offshore for some trolling and livebaiting on Sun, Mon, Tues via the South Passage Bar...

I normally travel through the northern gutter...

Havent been out for about 6 weeks through the bar so would appreciate any latest news on channel conditions or general bar conditions...

This weekend looks like a pearler to head out..

I went through it Saturday and Sunday no problem, The Shingles were a bit crappy Saturday but improved considerably Sunday.

Thats a silly answer Tim. Justin just wants some help withe the bar conditions.
The Shingles, Justin, are the things that stop the water from coming through the roof onto ya while ya eatin possum.

They are also the name for the area west of the South Passage Bar that gets all shook up with the water movin around. I came in the North channel the last 2 weekends on a full runout tides and it was still pretty good with plenty of water under you. I went out the Amity each morning and it was a bit like threading a needle so to speak. A lot of ducking and weaving.

The stretch of water basicaly between Amity and the southern end of Moreton, the run over to the Northern entrance of the bar.

It's nearly always lumpy on a run in tide (incoming swell hitting the banks), flatish on the run out, as I said, Saturday was extra crappier than usual.

The Rufus/Amity channels are pretty shallow and the best course seems to change depending on tide and swell direction. The northern channel is good except in the middle of a big runout

I went out through Amity at twilight Sunday morning and it was easy. Returned just after the run in had started and it was still very easy to pick a path. I also watched a 34 footer come back in using a slightly more upset path and he did it with ease. I also went half way back into the bar to try and guide the 34 footer into a good route and he seemed to pay attention to my route as he came in steadily.
