Fish ID - Alligator Ck - Townsville

    Hey guys.

Probably and easy one for most but I was just wondering if you can confirm the species of fish I caught today in alligator creek.

My research would suggest a Jewfish (Silver).

Fish only went about 35cm and went back to fight another day.

Also, if I am correct with the identification, and I am looking at the "recreation fishing size and bag limits QLD" do i assume it is the "Scaly Jewfish" therefore size limit of 45cm or is it in fact different to the black and scaly as listed in the publication therefore it has no size limit?

    Confused?

    Appreciate any help.

I would call that for a silver jewfish, it doesn't look like a mulloway and it's definately not a teraglin or black jew.

Given the time between you catching fish there's no suprise you're confused.

    thanks for your support bjp

whats your take on the size limit (if any) ?

The recreation fishing size and bag limits publication only lists Black Jewfish and Scaly Jewfish.

    http://www.dpi.qld.gov.au/documents/Fisheries_RecreationalFishing/RecFishing-SizeAndTake-combined.pdf

The DPI site http://www.dpi.qld.gov.au/28_14901.htm states that frequent misidentifications are with the scaly and the black. This would suggest that they are different species and therefore there is no size limit.

    you agree?

    Disregard the above.

If I had of read further along in the DPI site it states "No size or bag limit"
