    sea snake jacobs well

took my 2 boys for a camp and some shore fishing here last week,on the the weds night on dusk while fishing away quitely my 10yr old screamed dad i got a sea snake and started heading up towords the road(rod still in hand thanfully)at a rate of knots(we were just around from the boat ramp).after telling him to stop being stupid his rod was going beserk,i calmed him down to reel in the weirdest thing id ever seen.another fisho near by came to our aid and told us it was a long tom and we tried to get it back in the water to no avail.so our new friend took it home to dinner.as i had no idea what it was i wasnt going to eat it till id learned more.im glad i didnt after looking it up.my boy was so excited in his experience he had me at the jetty next morning at 4 30am.not so lucky this time only a couple of undersized bream.gotta love it.

That IS a good sized longtom for these parts. They do go hard if you can actually hook em....we used to nickname them mini marlin when trying to catch em on light lines in the eastuaries down south, quite an aerial display. Some reckon they are good tucker, but a lot get turned off by the green bones. They are just an overgrown garfish with teeth

Nice catch, The lad would be a bit weary not knowing what it was. Excellent eating by the way.

Also in Grant's Guide to Fishes, chefs love these too.
