Fishing at Monduran and Bargara

Hi All,
This is my first go at this - well here goes.
My family and I with another family are heading up to Lake Monduran from Victoria (towing our boats) in May to have a first crack at Barramundi............hoping for beginners luck. Our children are getting close to leaving home in the next year or two, so we are making one last attempt at a family holiday. We are going to stay on a houseboat at Monduran and do morning and evening trips in our boats while there. After four days or so, we are going to Bargara for a week and looking to do some beach fishing, creek fishing and go a little way out to a couple of the reefs off there as well as the Artificial reefs close by (weather permitting). Could anyone please give some advice as to the species that will be around there areas stated and what baits, Sp or lures etc that will be handy up that way. Also looking for a good place to eat that is reasonably priced for a couple evening meals. I know that this is a fair bit to ask - but if anyone can help, that would be fantastic. Thanks, Mocca.

Thats a long drive!
Regards Monduran, Foxies at Gin Gin, which is 20 minutes south of the dam turn off, will have all the latest info on whats working at the time. Save your coin for lures and SP's untill you get there, no point in wasting money on deep divers if the active fish are in the shallows etc.

Foxie doesnt open until 8.00AM, so keep that in mind.
Rob and Kelly at the van park where you will be signing on for the house boat also carry a limited range of lures ets, but I would stop at Foxies.
If the money is burning a hole in your pocket and you want to start stocking up now, I suggest some basic go to lures like B52's, Gadens Classics in 10', Lively Lures Arafura, and in soft placs try the ever popular 110mm Squidgey Pro Slick Rigs, Shadaliscious and 5 or 6 inch Berkley Hollowbellies.
Thers a million differant lures and placs that work, dont get to bogged down with it.
#30lb braid and 60/80 leader is standard tackle in the dam. A must is to up-grade the standard hooks and split rings on your lures. Owner ST66 trebles and Owner or Halco split rings are the go here. Its a long way to go to drop a fish due to gear failure, so please ensure the up-grade on terminal gear - you can get lucky on the standard hooks, but I wouldnt chance it.
Meals are available in Gin Gin at the hotels, along with an IGA supermarket, petrol etc etc that a small town has.
Cant help you with the salt water up that way, but Im sure some one else will kick in.

Trevs spot on, but maybe try the Fresh water reports section, we are a pretty fiesty mob in the fresh water chat section at times, and the good info is often a case of cant see the forest for the trees.

Mocca when in Bargara the hotel does a good meal and usually has a special most nights. If putting ur boat in at Burnett heads boat ramp watch ur step as this can be slippery more then most. Wayno

just got back from the dam yesterday and the fish were not playing ball. No hits or bumps after lots of lures, techniques and spots. Only saw one fish landed.

We bailed on the dam and headed for the Elliott River just south of Bagara. Had some fun with flatties and jacks. There was some massive bust-ups also, not sure what they were.

soft and hardbody lures. There is a fairly huge variety of structure to flick at from sand banks, trees/rocks and mangroves. There is also a great deep section that was alive with bait and predators.
