What are we doing wrong? - Shark fishing

Okay,

We've been fishing for sharks near the bridge leading to bond university in our 4m tinnie about 10 times now and we haven't even had a bite.

We always time it at through the high tide change and fish from about 8pm until often after midnight.

We always berley up, either with diced fish and/or tuna oil depending on what we have but for some reason its just not working.

Everyone we talk to says there are bullsharks everywhere in there and have been catching them without too much difficulty.

Is there anything else we should be doing or should we just try a different spot?

was jack fishin last nite and seen two come close to the shore and this was at low tide. try other spots they are definetly there.

I might have seen you putting about. Ive been out fishing off the shoreline on the rivers/canals a few times (5 in 8 actually) over the last weeks at night.
We have been using pillies and berley, landed a small hammerhead and a few big rays. Im still awaiting to get myself a "bully".
We have missed a couple really good bites worth a mention (almost lost 2 diff rods to the water not paying attention).
From what i have seen, its a hit and miss.
Change your spots, i dont think tide matters that much as long as its moving.
Berley is gold, I found tuna oil and homebrand cat food fish chunks does well. The nights i didnt berley, not a thing interested of size.
Like any fishing, when its good its good, when its not its not.
I caught 5 shovel nose rays/sharks in 2 hours a month ago, hasnt happened since.

Actually we have only been using pillies this week, we have used mullet fillets too. Floated and bottom rigged.
Anyways hope this helps even tho i havent nailed a bully yet, the way i figure it, if i got the hammerhead, cant be too far off from getting the famous bully.

Try catching some bream or big mullet. Use them as live bait, should work nicely.

I think i'll try some shallower water next time and some fresh/live bait and continue to berley heaps.

maxibon totally differnt area i know but last wkend i caught 2 bull sharks and got broken off another 5 times in the caboolture river. match the hatch they say. whatever you can catch in your castnet would be ideal bait i prefer live. in my area live big poddy mullet and live whiting produce great results!

A few things, how r u berleying?
the way 2 go with berley is a little bit alot, the idea situation is a constant stream not big one, jst a unbbroken trail, making sure a fast current isnt breaking ur trail and sending the sharks further away if the current is flying try an onion bag full of oily fish.
Second wat bait r u using?
for sharks pesonally i like dead bait something really oily mack, tuna, tailor etc. with a big chunky wire trace and hook its easier to hide with a dead bait.

i like to run 2 hooks 1 mtr apartonthe bottom hook a live something on the top hook i like to put 3 or 4 pillies just hokked though th eyes give it a wirl mate.

I shark fish often over summer in the Brisbane river, i find tides are not really that important, homebrand pilchard catfood with a few holes punched in the tin, in a burley bucket sunk to the bottom, using anything alive for bait, even catfish will work (if you are gonna use them, cut the barbs off with a pair of scissors) but i will let you in on a secret, if you can catch eel they are the BeSt bait goin for sharks they absolutely love it, if there is a bully around a half an eel on a 30lb wire trace with a 10.0 hook will do the trick everytime...

I have still been trying for these bull sharks without any luck, so I decided to bump the thread to try and get some more advice.

I am currently land based, as the tinny i was using was my mates, and would appreciate if anyone could give me any pointers as to where to try (pm if you want).

I have mainly been trying off bridges, with big chunks of mullet fillets or mullet heads as bait and still haven't had any luck.

I live in Mermaid Waters, so anywhere not too far away from there would be ideal.

I use 30lb mainline with a 4 foot nylon coated wire trace to a 8/0 circle hook.

Any advice as to locations or tackle/bait would be appreciated.

calypso bay at jacobs well. either nite or day.
live bait is the go. can get bait at behm creek on the way.
i find mullet works best. u can drive the car rite to the edge of the water. sum times there is security but not often.
if u dont get a shark and u should u will probally get a cod. there is heaps there. cant troll 50m in the yak without gettin a cod.
80lb leader 6/0 blackmagic circles. avoid wire. keep baits as alive as possible. berley would help. sinkers if needed.
