What is wrong with people, they are the sort of people that should be banned from crabbing for life.
Should have creamed him, my younger brother caught this asian bloke at our local spot in port phillip keeping under size flatties.....so my bro grabbed his bucket and threw them back, then kicked the bloke off the pier into the water and his tackle and rod followed.

Mind you, my brother is one serious fisho when its comes to size limits!
Thats another one for the Punisher!

Why didn't he give it to some of the resident locals or even to some passing backpackers?

Justjack, amazing how you do it, do you ever get bitten catching them by hand?

Thanks for sharing the info. I've been to Moreton several times but never targeted mudcrabs because I'd never seen a territory worthy of a mudcrab. How wrong I was.

    Great report. Cheers

Thats an amazing thing to see JJ. A bloke dumping 20 Muddies. I wonder how he caught so many? If he dumped 20 and was sick of eating them andstill had plenty we are talking a seriously great crabber here. Moreton Island is not well known as a Muddie haven so he must be another legendary crabber. Shame he is so wastefull.
I'd love to see some pics of your catch just to flesh the post out a bit.

moretons a muddy havon so so many holes i use to always go out and catch 10 crabs quite often but now being older have to work, horse mate this was back on the main land ide say hes been havin his pots out everyday and keeping whatever is legal there was alot of empty crabs he'd smashed open to see if they contained meat i personally think he had no clue to what he was doin and kept more then he could dream to eat

    Re: muddies and squid

Surely that person who caught a shitload of muddies would have some idea if the crab was full or not by having alook at a few telltale signs....colour of shell, greeny-white is almost guaranteed near empty....squeeze the shell and flexes in..almost empty....deep chocolate brown underneath , deep purple ontop, guarantee 95% full....not foolproof but usually the go.

bag limit of TEN in possesion you shoulda reported him . its imbecile's like that that wreck fisheries. i'm not real big on putting people in to the authorities but i'd make exceptions for that piece of offal - bad enough to take way over the bag limit, but that's obscene - throwing them away. only one rule on my boat - if your not going to eat it or use it - let it go.
won't be long before bag limit is 1

    Re: muddies and squid

Abalone is now bag limit of 2, no thanks to the overseas invasion, not worth the hassle to suite up., yes I know there's none in Qld waters, I'm talking down South...now they have a total ban due to abalone gut virus (so they say).

Yeah I agree justjack, why take crabs when they are empty in the first instance?
