peel sesh

fished peel today in about 6meters using sp's mostly 3 to 5 inch...... we fished very gentlemenly hours of 10 to 2 against my wishes..... any ways on the second drift of the day i nailed a nice 45cm squire. . besides that things wernt really going off and i got sick of losing the tails on my plastics.... i think combined we went through 7 packets .

Anways we ended up with 2 bar tailed flatties about 50cm(real nice lookin fish) a sweetlip at 37cm......... and the squire...... i guess not much more could be expected considering the time of day, the tides, the moon.... lol

Hey Dylan,

Good effort mate - I wonder how long it will be before you can buy plastics with replaceable tails???

I spent the day in the Rainbow Channel yesterday, bottom bashed some deeper stretches, trolled up to Amity and back, all without a touch.

Almost at the bottom of the tide we again tried a drift in about 15m.

All seemed lost till a couple of squid followed a pilly up from the depths.

I must confess that we quickly forgot aspirations of mackerel or tuna and three adults spent a fantastic hour chasing ten squid into the boat.

I can't remember the last time I had so much fun in the boat.

Anyway, just thought I'd share - happy trails,

gday mate,
i've started fishing 4 inch minnows with a treble stinger and had ten times better hoohup rate.will never look back...

hmmm very interesting....... do you find you get less strikes with the treble stinger?>?..... yeah often... you get a good run and then the hook pops off..... i think i will try it..... any tips with the rig???

the brother in law and I fished peel this morning at first light and bagged out on snapper plus 4 sweey's in 2 hours....we were releasing legal snapper because the action was thick and fast.
best bay session I've had in a long time.

Sounds like a good session for the middle of the day Dylan.

Much size about the snapper Pickers?

up to 3kg but they were lean fish...not fat in them at all.

many years of trial and heeps of error but being in the right place at the right time helps too.
fished the same spot 10 days before that for 2 snaps , 3 sweety's and a cod.
use local bait , heavy leader (30lb) and keep it on the bottom and DONT burly as you will bring in too many sharks atm....you will still get the odd bite off or slug it out fight untill you get the shyts and break it off but the fish are there so use your nog a bit and it will pay off.

Thanks mate - any tips I get are greatly appreciated cause I live so far from the water and cannot go out anything like enough! I have been using very light leaders around Peel, and generally when fishing plastics, but I might bait a line there too with a heavier leader.
