Hooked the boat up Tuesday night and had everything prepped for a 3am start. Plan was to launch at Clontarf and head to the Brissy River to try my new Jackal lures out on some Threadies. Well slept in and woke up at 4.30. Bad but I thought it will be ok as the bottom of the tide was 7.30 so still had plenty of time to get there and fish the incoming while throwing out the crab pots on the way. Quick Coffee and I am in the car ready to roll. Turn the key and ticka, ticka, ticka. The battery on my work ute is dead, dam things just got worse. Now that I think about it for the last few days the car has been slow to turn over. Guess the battery just died. Tried jumping it off my freshly charged battery from the boat but no good. Couldn't move cars around as it would wake the kids. I walk back in the house at 5.30 defeated. Kids wake up so I do a big bacon and egg cook up and slip down to super cheap to grab a new battery.
Decided to take the wife out at 9.00am to put the crab pots in and fish Scarby Reef. Was a bit rough heading out but not to bad. I have never had the wife out before with no kids in the boat so was able to give it a bit to punch through the rough stuff. Parked on the reef and caught 4 moses perch in 25 mins all legal size. I thought here we go you beauty. Well turns out that my wife who has never been out with me in all these years gets sea sick. After a good amount of burly (from the Missus over board) we have to head back in. Man this day was never meant to be.
Head in and back home when I get a call from some mates to go fishing that night. Sure I say at this stage but what else could go wrong? Back out on the reef at 5.30pm and I am telling the boys about the moses I caught this a.m when boom, all 3 rods go off and we each pull in 32cm perch. Sweet, see I am not a liar. Ended up being a great night, we bagged out on moses and also landed 4 fairly decent size shovel nose sharks on very light gear which was fun. Caught a few bream to add to the collection and even a few squid (which was weird). Threw back a few just under size squire which was a shame as they were very fat. Had two rods get smacked and about 100 meters of braid peeled off before I tried to put the breaks on but got busted.
After a terrible morning my freezer is now loaded with fish (for a change).

I was using cuttlefish when I caught the shovellies. In fact out of pilchards, squid and cuttlefish it was the cuttlefish that was doing the damage. They were not interested in pilchards at all.
Did you catch the cuttlefish, or buy them from somewhere?
If you bought them, who sells them?
I caught one once, and sent it down as a live bait. I was busted off within minutes of it hitting the water, so would love to get my hands on some more.

I buy them (as a live bait they would be great). I buy them from a bait shop in Redcliffe. They pack and freeze them on site. The guy recommended it to me for Snapper a couple of months back. I haven't got a snapper yet but every time I use it as a bait we have a good session so it's my preferred bait at the moment.
Oh, the name of the bait shop is Deception bay bait (or Captain Nemo's) it's in Rothwell in the street next to Bunnings right down the end. They are good people and write the fishing reports (when they get in) in the local paper.
