Looking at getting uhf for 04 ra rodeo and fitting it space below cd player the depth is about 20mm too shallow thought I should be able to cut out the back of the insert just wondering if anybody has done similar thing the uhf I m keen on is icom 400 pro also just after recommendations on best snorkel for rodeo cheers yamp

You should be able to remove the insert and launch the radio all the way in there.

I have a Safari snorkel fitted to my 07 rodeo.

G'day,

Don't disturb any of the dash or consol mounting screws or bolts. They may be critical to passenger airbag deployment, if you have one.

Make sure any communications device (radio or phone) is shielded for RFI and EMI. There have been instances of communications devices interfering with engine and transmission ECU function in recent years.

Some late model equipment has been designed to overcome these problems. Some are mounted at the back of the car (say, under the parcel shelf) with just a wafer thin control panel near the driver.

I have installed a uhf below the existing cd player in a 07 rodeo with no adverse effects on any of the airbag systems. Just use some common sense with the routing of the aerial cabling from the bullbar through the LHS of the engine bay and carefully through the fire wall and into the radio area. Your 04 should be a little less complex in this area
