    Mooloolah river jack

Fished the mooloolah river this morning with two other kayakers. Got this fella near one of the bridges.

Glad I bought heavier braid for that reel the day before. He tried to take me round anything and everything he could find. Will be investing in a foldable net very soon, was lucky one of the other fellas was carrying one.

Nice one Joel, what did the damage? Was it catch and release or dinner?

Cheers Pete. It's an everything PB for me mate. Only my 3rd jack and all 3 have come from within 200m of each other.

lol, yeah I know, look a bit like a military gypsy or something. I just hate having to reapply sunscreen all the time. I always forget and end up crispy. Now I cover everything I can, long sleeves, long pants, hat, buff and gloves. The jack went about 53cm they told me, we couldn't lie him down to get anything definitive though. They dropped the net in my lap at one point and I didn't want those fangs anywhere near my crotch!

Thanks Marty, it was catch and release mate. Lure was a 3" atomic prong in shrimp core on one of the hidden weight TT jigheads. 10lb leader and 12lb mainline.

Well done on the jack. And good to see someone being sun smart, you may look dorky to some, but you can look dorky for a lot more days on the water, and years on the land than a lotof us that dont cover up.

Cheers fellas. As I said, I end up burned if I don't do it that way and I'd prefer to not have great chunks of cancer cut out of my skin.

They're a little bit smelly but I hold most of my fish with a damp rag. They're useful to have and stop the back of your hands getting burned.
