    pine river bullies

happy new year to everybody .
I got a msg the other day from keechie , him and a mate went out chasing bullies and had a pretty hot sesh with 7 landed and plenty off misses . I have not been able to get out much over the holidays because of the crappy weather , so with the blue sky and lower winds yesterday i was keen to get out .

keechie and i got to the spot just before the high tide and got set up rigging up a 7inch mullet each . We had a few good runs but the baits were getting dropped soon as they felt any weight or getting bitten off 1mm behind the hook . keechie got 1 that was 1m long into the boat and it was tagged and released in good health .

Just before the bully was caught 4 jet skies pulled up on the bank behind us ( about 10m away )and set up there spot for passengers to wait for a go on the tube . We could here them chatting and a woman saying "ah there's no sharks in here " , than keechie hooked up and one off the jet skies with tube came over to see what it was , he got a surprise when he saw it was a shark and asked us what sort off shark is it and are you going to kill . We told him bull shark and we are releasing it . he took off pretty quick , than the woman on the bank saw us swimming it and went oh my god there letting that shark go !!! After some arguments about who is on the tube , they packed up the tube and all got on the jet skies and went home we nearly wet our pants laughing .

    Nice one Nico....

I got two bullies on Friday......Similar story to you.....in that two girls jumped in for a swim as I hooked up.....I told them there were sharks around and they absolutely crapped themselves and swam like Ian Thorpe.... .....They saw me land the shark and said..."We are never swimming here again" .

I will put some pics up later.

    Happy New year Buddy,

thanks mate , it happens all the time in the pine , you get a hit or run every time a ski boat comes past or a skier falls in near the boat .
I'll have to get up there soon and hook up for a fish some where , let me know if your keen .

    cheers nico

    Re: pine river bullies

    Good story Nico.

I've caught bullies where the Bremer meets the Brisbane river, and years later towed skiers and biscuits at the park at the junction there. With sounder on, passengers ask what the big fish shapes were that were showing...

Seeing is beleiving for most people LOL But I learned to water ski at the scout hut, Jindalee, spending many hours in the water there. Never had a problem, there has always been bullies in big numbers and there is still a better chance of having a fatal accident in a car than being bitten buy one, isn't that the statistic or has recent rain changed that?

    Fun on light line anyhow!

Iam Also Curious About The Bait? Live?
    What Time Of Day.
I Would Love To Have A Go At Them.
Imy Young Bloke Who Has Been Pretty Crook Has Been Asking Me To Take Him.
The Pine Is Closer For Me Than The Brissie River.
I Guess If Its Blowing A Bit Outside, The Pine Should Be Ok.
    Is It Better At Night?

    Cheers

    Re: pine river bullies

i have not tried much at night for them , but one off the times i did was near bald hills creek and we had heaps off hits and dropped a few boat side .
For bait we caught about 20 mullet between 6-10 inchs long ( 1 cast ) and used them dead (forgot the livie bucket) . We were anchored up and threw the baits out un weighted . I dont use ballons/floats because i have never caught a bully on 1 , but that doesnt mean it wont work , ballons are good the get your bait out .
stessco bullies love a live bream on a 10/0 hook , better be quick getting them in the net lol.
Cuzza i will probly be keen next weekend some time for a arvo/night sesh

    cheers nico

Nice catch. Do you find that any particular tide is better for them or do they seem to be around most of the time?
