    Variety in Maroochydore

My mate and I hit up an old spot that we had not fished for quite a while, not since around June if I recall. We fished at night from about 8pm.... Well save for me having a quick flick there on dawn a couple of days ago. I got absolutely smoked by something. I've had a few decent fish on the end of the rod/reel I was using and this was considerably bigger. I had no hope of stopping it on 6lb braid.

We didn't land anything of real size, but the variety was a nice change...

    Me:

    1x Mangrove Jack
    2x Moses Perch
    1x Grunter Bream
    1x Bigeye Trevally (my first)

    Jason:

    1x Porcupine fish
    1x Eel tailed cat fish
    1x Bream
    2x Moses Perch

Went back there this afternoon and I guess the rumours are true... Local tackle shop(s) have been blabbering about the location to tourists and it was packed.
A year ago you would be lucky to find a few locals there relaxing away the afternoon but now.... Dozens of people lining the banks.

I've got some photos which I'll post tomorrow.

    Matt.

    Matt,

Nice mix of fish. You're not the only one with crowd control problems on the Maroochy. I hired a boat (left mine in Brissy for the holidays) with a mate and took our sons for a quick session with worms caught on the beach. Parked on the edge of "Black Bank" near Twin Waters. Had a procession of kayaks, surf mats, swimmers and boats all pass between us and the bank 10m away. Can't believe how arogant/ignorant people can be.

Sure the crowds will settle soon,

    Dave

I've been avoiding the usual haunts over the holidays for that reason and that reason alone. There are arrogant people on the water at the best of times but during the holidays the worst of the worst all come out of the woodwork.

    How did you go?

I can't speak for the bullies as I've never tried to catch them. I've been getting really keen to give it a go though.. Just have to work out how.
