Tie a knot in your rope about 2m above the pot. For about 1m, every 5cm, slip a size 6 whiting hook between the twists in the rope with the point facing down.
The knot is only there to tell YOU not to grab the next bit. lol

wild life monitors take photos triggered by movement and can be made theft proof then post photos of theives.
maybe helpfull but is an expensive way to monitor ,the really expensive ones will send an instant image via mobile

An old uncle of mine was a pro crabber over in the gulf 20 odd years ago, he occasionally used to wire an old shotgun into the mangroves and run a trip wire from the trigger to the pot rope................ he tells me he never pointed the shotty back at his pot................. i guess i just have to beleive him, hehe.
