hello everyone, im new to the site and just wondering if anyone has any experience with big tusk fish in moreton bay, i was fishing near the missing red beacon off green a couple of days ago and pulling in a few sweeties and squire and the occasional fat tusk fish about 30cm, but lost a massive tusk fish close to the boat about 55-60cm estimated, sheared off my 20lb braid. has anyone caught any big ones? are they worth targeting for a feed? I havnt tried eating them
there out there if you know how to fish for them and where to fish for them, ive caught them up to 30lb but havent got one like that in a while and not at green, out in the bay a little more
They are a really good feed best cooked whole (gutted/gilled) virgin and scales on even, in the oven or wherever.

Geez, now thats a Tusk,
Tusk fish would have to be one of the best eating fish, with only a few better.

Junglegreen. there are quite a few caught around Green but I have only got them to about 45cm. The bigger ones tend come from the deeper ledges in the Bay

my grandfather has the pic somewhere i was only 16 when i caught it though my grandfather has caught quite a few that size i think i even still have the jaws of it at his house its teeth are nearly an inch long, it was one of the most fun and frightening fishing experiences of my life holding onto an 80lb handline with bike tube around my fingers baited with a whole sandy, while my grandfather makes the coffee... next minute im nearly out of the boat hahaha ill try find some pics... back to the thread mate if you want to catch big ones try deaper water heavy line and good quility gear, i prefer a big hand reel but its up to you
There was a pic of Webby in the BnB a while back with a huge one.
I believe he araldited a hook to the shell of a whole sandy and caught it on that.
