Saltwater Estuary and Light gear.

Hi I was wondering if anyone had pointers for light geart and lines for saltwater fishing?

I prefer light gear and find it more fun. Light gear in rough conditions such as wind can be a pain though.

Thoughts?

At the moment my estuary rod is a 7ft Shimano Sahara matched with the Sahara 2500 reel. I use it at least 5 times a week, and it performs extremely well. Being a graphite rod, it is also great for soft plastics, and you can really feel every bite and tug. It casts like a dream too, which is great when you're throwing plastics around all day.

It cost me just under $200 at BCF in their pre-Christmas sales, and I feel that it is worth a lot more than what I paid for it.

All in all, you can't go wrong with Shimano gear. I swear by Shimano reels, as they have extreme quality and a 10 year warranty.

I find that fishing with 6 lb braid and mono trace to suit, very satisfying. I target bream, flathead and whiting, all on bait or lures, not much on plastics. I also agree that Shamano puts together very good quality gear.

yep , 6pound braid , leader to suit , 3lb bream , 6lb trevally , flatties. 2500 shimano reel even smaller. good fun and fish give more stick!

I agree with the above, yesterday I caught a nice feed of whiting using a 7ft 2-4kg Gladiator rod with 6lb braid and 8lb Vanish leader. I have three similar outfits like this and they just are a great universal tool for all kinds of estuary fishing
I run Daiwa TD Advantage 2000 and 2500 class reels on them.
Thse rods are also what I use for SPs which I do mostly.
