hi i have only become new to trying tro catch spanner crabs (i have been offshore fishing foer more than 10 yrs) and still my count is 0 and bloody sore arms i try in front of morton and stradie can any1 give me any tips please as it would be much appreciated
Try NE of murphys if you are willing to travel a bit further north.
Make sure you are not setting them on and kind of reef. Make sure you are checking them after about 2 hours as turtles tend to find them by then. Spanners also tend not to move after about lunchtime. Mornings are much more successful.
Marc, you could also try the sand banks on the northwestern side of caloundra 12 mile or up outside coolum. I have never crabbed from moreton so cant help you there but always get good numbers up there.

Off the front of Morton try starting from the 35m line setting pots at different depths out to as long as your rope's are, about a km apart till you find crab, We used to fish out from South Passage bar inside the line from flat rock, unfortunately this area is now green zone, we used to set the pots then troll the 7's cohecking every two hours.
On the Gold coast work north of the Seaway outside the green zone in 30-50m, I'm still looking for ground to the south without much luck.
We caught a spanner crab on a shiny sinker on the bait grounds just north of the south passage bar a while ago when i left dragging on the bottom to unhook others peoples livies. We also see lots of pots in 40m to 60m of water in the trench round to about 3 miles north of hutchies.
