    Hervey Bay 15 - 18 Dec

Well took my wife up to hervey bay to see how she'd go camping in the tent for a few days.... as a trial precursor to heading to more remote locations So we packed our car up... in a half arsed rushed way..... managed to remember most things...... then drove up to the Torquay Beachfront caravan park and set up camp for three nights.....

we had a beachfront site and it was bloody awesome! Met HerveyBayAndy who provided some great local information! Cheers Andy!

Then the recce for the fishing started under the guise of a walk around some of the local areas..... so out to the pier we went.... wandered out to the end of the pier saw some pretty bloody big fish caught.... and was beginning to think maybe i didn't bring enough or heavy enough gear.... well that was shortlived... more on that later....

So first things first..... off to collect some bait.... headed to Eli Creek to chuck the cast net around.... well.... managed a small amount of bait.... headed out to the pier for some night fishing action

Threw a couple of live mullet out..... and some dead herring also.... not a bloody sniff at the mullet...... and discovered squid stealing the herring, not prepared with a squid jig.....only managed 6 squid on normal hooks

The next night...... same again except picked up a couple of squid jigs for the evening..... My wife became obsessed with catching the squid and managed 15 that night, while I only caught a couple... i held out illusions that I may catch a fish instead..... nope....

Last evening that we went, basically the same! Squid and no fish!

Overall had an awesome week, now have my wife pestering me to find squid fishing spots around brisbane! So anyone know of LB squid spots currently producing some squid?

The only negative experience is the underage drinking and general anus'ness that goes on at the end of the pier each evening...... There are a lot of young wankers getting around at the end of the pier, so it is best to avoid it..... I think they need an increased police presence to sort it out, as they are pretty bloody annoying and obnoxious.

watch out for thieves at the end of the pier too. theres a few magpies that take a liking to anything shiny, especially rods and reels. Dont turn your back.
Fishing- It's only an addiction if you're trying to quit.

Funny you should mention that..... the second night there.... there was a big group of walking anus'es who were making all kinds of problems... lots of yelling etc.... threats of fights all kind crap... as apparently someone stole a rod etc.... anyways ended up with about 8-10 cops, a dog and a couple of detectives heading down the pier.....

Swabio it was a pitty you didn't have a 6 metre boat packed in your gear as my mates went up and caught heaps of good fish of to Frazer west side with huge mackeral and sorts. Cheers on a good break.

    Swabio,

Good on you mate, nice report, I've been trying to get some squid for some time, but no reliable reports. Having said that, my car also is not reliable anymore. I have a few squid jigs. Just wondering how long the squid will be around for?

Eli Creek? Is that accessible by normal vehicle or do you need a 4WD?

    Cheers, Peter

Trouble with those pricks David Jones's Locker is not deep enough there, otherwise a few of them would be walking the plank
