    Caboolture River 19/12/09

Headed out 4.30am Sat morning with Yakfly for a few hours paddling the Caboolture river mouth.
End of the runout tide, very calm morning, just great to be on the water.
    Mozzies were very fierce though!

Paddled across to the sand banks from the Beachmere ramp, from there it was cast after cast of lures for naught.
Bait everywhere, some surface action here and there, very exciting.
Couple of small fish dropped from both of us, nothing landed, getting a bit frustrating after an hour or so.
By this time we were around the Burpengary ramp side of the river and heading out.
I drifted across the deeper part of the channel which was still showing around 3-4m.
So after reports of the odd threadie being caught I tied on the largest lure I had with me.
A Lucky Craft Staysee 120, I think the colour is American Shad?
Trolled for about 10 minutes at a casual pace just along the drop off line, nothing was happening.
So I thought I would have a few casts at the bank from where I was.
Just as I put my paddle down the lure went off!
A great 5 minute fight with lots of powerful runs and then a big flash of silver got me excited.
A nice Jewie of 68cm! My first and first from the yak.
Got into a bit of a tangle so we headed over to the bank to do some measuring and photos etc.
We were unsure of the new legal size so we let her go and that was the right thing to do.
My camera decided to crap itself at that point, so the only pic is from Yakfly's phone.

Managed to score another at 45cm also and that was it for the morning.

Yakfly scored a legal flattie and then headed out from Sandstone point for the "Lunch Session" scoring a feed of bream also.

A great morning and some encouragement to score some bigger fish over summer!

Both Jewies were caught at a slow troll.
Nitro Voodoo Rod, TwinPower 2500FC, 10lb Nitlon braid, 16lb leader, Lucky Craft Staysee 120.
    Cheers and thanks.
