fish skeletons dumped at victoria point nth ramp

Is this normal to see fish skeletons being dumped at ramps? i guess they are eventually eaten by scavengers? always see lots at vic point nth ramp but yesterday after seeing someone actually dump a large bucket full into the water i wondered if this was good or bad practice?

putting your left overs back into the system would be the best thing to do wouldnt it??? just as long as there far enough out that they dont come out of the water on low tide and stink the place out. I know I dump mine back in the water as it seems to be a better idea than putting them in the bin.

Or a even better idea is crab bait and turn them into tasty little criters

this is dumped where at low tide they sit on the ground exposed. they do it all the time. dumped right up the top of the ramp before you go down near the park. usually see rotting skeletons on the point halloran side all the time at low tide exposed.

not a good thing if you have crocs around. best to dump them out to sea on the next trip

I'm not a fan of it. I keep frames for berley or bury them at home if a bin can't be found. I think it's just litter. It can end up stinking if it's washed up and there are just better ways, if people use their heads.

But it's all about MEMEMEMEME so they go ahead anyway.

wouldn't be very good for a young kid or anyone else for that matter if they stood on one and got a spine through a foot, seeing as though bare feet or partly covered feet are the norm around boatramps...

bin it, crab bait it or burley it imo

This also happens at Wynnum Creek Boat Ramp, and at low tide it sure does stink, so in my mind it's a bad practice unless you are dumping them away from the Shore.

    Thanks Tom

Really? I don't really see a problem, I seriously doubt they would last more than a day with the birds and fish eating them. Maybe it could become a problem if it was a fishmarket constantly dumping large amounts of waste.

But seriously, if its just someone chucking out some frames I really think there are bigger problems out there to worry about.

Throw mine into the river, surely its better to feed the fish & crabs then throw in the bin (A hell of a lot less smelly too) but I do ensure I throw them deep enough so they are not exposed at low tide...sometimes I sit and watch all the little fishyies come and have a feed for a while

the only problem i see is sharks and rays that might be attracted to the ramp area.at least it is going back into the system.
F@#k being at work lets go fishing

hhmm, you haven't lived untill you live in an area where Shark Fishing is common practice, nothing quite like the smell of a couple of hundred kilos of rotting Shark flesh that someone has left at the cleaning table after removing the jaws, or a big Marlin frame that someone has hacked a few fillets off, removed the head then dumped the rest and the ramp.

I think it's at the lower end I have done it on rare occasions like trips away and staying in rental accommodation but always pitched them far enough into the deep as to be hidden, cannot do it up here at all, the crocs might hang around and it's not worth the potential risk of copping an unjust fine if filleted at sea at least the frames will be viewable right up to the last if done on land.

    cheers fnq

There was an issue in Gladstone a while back where people were dumping frames at the ramps. The issue was it started to attract stone fish.

they ended up putting up signage recommending the practice not be continued.
