pin flathead

hey guys, first report in a long time so lets see how it goes.

went out to the pin for the run up tide this morning and fished till the tide turned using, river 2 sea glassie vib50's and was able to get onto some lizards, managed 5 in the 3 and a half hour session most were just pushing 45cm or so, not huge but still good fish, managed to just miss out on boating one due to my angling error and this one would of been pushing the high 60cm mark easy.

all in all a great session and i found a steady slow retrieve with the river 2 sea lipless crankbaits most productive and the fish would rise to take them and i didnt find it absolutely neccesarry to have the lure bouncing along the bottom.

all fish were taken along the south eastern side of crusoe in approx 1.8m of water.

Great report Troy with some very useful detail.

I fish the pin area a lot using SP's and there are certainly plenty of fish around at the moment including some better fish in the 60's and 70's range. I have found that very few fish get dropped on soft plastics although there is the occasional bite-off from swallowed rigs - most fish are usually hooked in the mouth. I have found that lures with trebles are more susceptible to shake-offs. Haven't specifically targeted flatties on vibe type lures so I will definietly give it a go next time I'm out.

yer mate, first time i have used this lure for flathead, normally use SP's but after an hour and a half on my reliable plastics that i normally get my fish on i decided to mix it up and try something new, especially after having no touches on the sp's.

so i spose you might say i stumbled across this lure, maybe it was the faster/steady retrieve that triggered the strikes as technique with this lure had no pauses or anything like that. so if you ever find your go to SP's are not working might be worth giving this a try.
