    Bay Snapper

No, not Moreton Bay, try the next bay up…Hervey Bay, lol.
Well believe it or not, this is my first snapper! Yeah I know, I fish a lot, but its always up the creeks, so with time off work and dead calm on the Observations, I decided to head out from Burrum heads to the big bay, and found 8 mile reef.

Threw out plastics for about 3 hours and only got the tails nipped, so I started drifting with a pillie. Got my first ever mackeral at 55cm and wasn’t sure what he was. I had the regs book on board and it said grey mac 60cm, school macs 50cm, so being unsure I threw him back. Found out today that it was a school mac, and apperantly they are good eating, bugger.

After a coupla small squire, I had a felling the snapper might be around, even if it is summer. About noon he came on the bite, and after another drift, I pulled up stumps as the breeze finally got up at 1pm.

Had to motor home at 6 kts as the engine was playing up, but it was all worth it. He went 69cm and 4.0 kgs.

    Cheers
    Andrew

Good fish for middle of the day. I have also caught some reasonable snapper at the 8 mile.

Nice fish. There is a lot of variety around your area. the 8 mile has produced Snapps and nice Golden trevs as well as Maccys
