Re: Tammy scores her first Barra at 104cms

Gidday all and thank you for the responses.

    Hi Peter 4,

That little bay is mostly 1.2 – 1.5 meters deep but it drops down to five meters on the wall. I love the early mornings when there is no wind. It is just fantastic until 08:00am when the sun starts to cook you from up above and you pray for a gentle breeze.

    Hi Cind,

I have read a few of your posts and you sound like a go getter!!!. You must absolutely love fishing if you keen enough to go solo. Tammy is my eldest daughter and we have been fishing together since she was two years old. She loves anything to do with the outdoors. Tammy has been doing it pretty tough most of her life suffering a broken neck at 15years old and recently undergoing two brain tumour removals so this Barra was pretty special to both of us.

    Hi Shane,

Tammy has caught everything from Marlin, Mackerel, Wahoo as well as the bigger Ajs but the magic of this Barra caught her by surprise. I think it must be the massive contrast of the pristine still waters one second and the absolute frenzy of a massive, out of control Barramundi leaping of the water in the next second. I have caught quite a few of these magnificent creatures and still suffer the shakes every time.

    Hi Mull Dog,

Tammy has been my fishing, shooting, and Camping partner for over 33 years and I love seeing the thrill and excitement in her face every time she achieves something new.

    Hi Chris,

Don’t you just love the smell of slime in the morning? I can remember when Ben (etmog) caught a good size barra and he wanted a clean shirt for the photos. Navi (Black Sheep) was not impressed when he realised that Ben had christened his beautifully pressed shirt for the occasion.

    Hi Whitto,

We were just lucky to have our mates from Bribie beside us at the time. The photos are a bit blurry because they were laughing so hard.

    Hi Jamie,

If I had my choice again I would camp next to you again tomorrow. Except for the snoring you guys were the perfect neighbours. Congratulations on your first. \
PS. Give me a yell if you want that autograph!!!!!

    Hi Feral,

The way that Tammy is feeling now she wants a 150 t-shirt in January.

    Hi Paul, Ben(Yellahunter),

Thanks for the comments. The burnt frog will be out there again soon and we are really keen to head up with you in January.

    Hi Pete (62),

As soon as the fish hit the lure, Tammy immediately drove the tip of the rod underwater but the barra kept on jumping for another three or four times. I didn’t tell the whole story. After the usual fight that lasted for about six jumps and some blistering runs, the fish headed for the trees. The line was stuck on the leader knot but the fish was so tired that he just hung there but you could still feel her there. We persevered for over 15 minutes and I eventually removed the reel and opened the bail arm. I could then follow the line down with just the rod which gave me an extra meter of depth, just enough to reach the snag.

You will notice that the line is very slack in the first few photos because we still had the bail open as we re attached the reel. It may be just as you say but the scales could also have been lost while she was hung up on the tree. BTW we did use a environet which limits the fish damage.

    Hi Matt,

Thanks mate and well done on your efforts.

    Hi Darren,

I spoke to Steve B but he was too busy helping the other fishermen. He just can’t stop helping people in one way or another..
I hope to catch up with him when we are up there next

Thanks again for all the great responses.
