    Sand Spears on Fraser Island

    Hi all,
I just noticed that sand spear's are not allowed on fraser Island. How long has this ban been in place. I've been taking one there for the last 5 years.
What do the rangers do if they catch you with one. What a pain taking craploads of shower water with you.

It might be a helath & safety rule. Lets just say that some of the water that might get taken up from a sand spear might not be the cleanest in some of those popular camping areas.

I'd go with that explaination until a better one comes along.
I saw a doco somewhere recently that said the water quality in the lakes has degraded a fair bit in recent years with all the tourists washing their hair with shampoo in the lakes. FFS who the hell takes shampoo to Fraser.

Its only illegal if you get caught.

Its too good not to use it. I'd be carefully setting/packing it up, keeping it out of site. Thats what i'll be doing in future.

They've been banned for at least a few years now. There's a recent thread on here somewhere - they are not allowed in any national park beach area in qld, I believe.

Where we camp on the beach the water quality seems great. We only use it for washing up and showering. I'd hate to think how much water we use in 10 days. I'll be taking it and trying to hide it some how. We have had one up there for years and no ranger has ever said anything. Strange...

The water quality is somewhat dubious along the beach with all the make do toilets in the dunes..If you shower in merky water, it may be someones After Grog Bog. We always collect water from the Creeks. There may be a dead horse further up stream but at least we dont know about it .& what you dont know , wont hurt. Tug
    Not all tools are usefull.
Nappies and politicians should be changed regularly for the same reason..
