    Tinaroo Full Moon

Went up to Tinaroo for a morning session last Wed on the Full Moon.

We arrived in the dark 4:30 and once we arrived at our first spot were met by hundreds of large Boney Bream feeding on the surface it sounded like a school of Mac tuna feeding and the occasional Barra could be heard smashing them off the top.

The surface lures we were using seemed to blend in with all the activity too much so I changed to a large bomber style lure with a big rattle. It didn’t take long to attract attention and I was hooked to a nice fish, the trouble was my line was under the sons and with the fish charging back at us I couldn’t keep tight and the hooks came unstuck.

As the sun broke the sky the Boney’s disappeared. We tried a few other spots in the area for little result. Conditions on the lake were perfect very still and it was going to get hot.

The decision was made to move and explore looking for some new country with the falling dam levels. We settled on an area that had a creek entering the dam with some good shallow banks exposing themselves with the lower water levels.

The very first cast resulted in a large boil on the plastic but the fish lost interest pretty quickly and we didn’t see it again.

I wouldn’t normally target snags but a large tree lying on the bank extending into the water caught my eye it was partially shaded and looked like a good resting place. The first four cast in drew no result but the next had a good fish engulf the lure luckily it came straight out toward the boat clear of the timber.

I had a quick look around and saw we were in the old creek bed and there were tree heads everywhere just under the surface, I had to keep the fish on a very short leash and with the young fella on the electric we had a few tense moments getting the fish clear. The fish measured 115cm.

We continued fishing for another couple of hours with a couple of bumps and looks but no takers. The heat got us in the end and drove us off the water by midday.

    Cheers Andrew.

Nice fish. Carrying some extra kilo's like most fish tend to up that part of the Dam.

Few boats out on Wednesday night. Not as crazy as Monday night... counted 12 trailers as I launched @ Tinaburra. Got one a tad smaller just around the corner from the first photo (around Redbanks) & then hit a few smaller one's up in the Barron.

Those ultra-calm days can be tricky to fish, but if there's a good wind the night before your usually in for a good day!

Yeah Theo it was bloody hot out there and pretty hard work. The fish didn't come from where the photo was taken, it came from school point area not much water there at the moment.

Water temp was up around 28 degree a bit warmer than everywhere else we went on the day and a bit dirty.

Yes it was a very fat fish we thought it may have been a bit longer when it first jumped.

Good to see you getting a few I haven't seen any of those smaller fish for a while now I was catching heaps back August Sept.

    Cheers Andrew.
