    Aflp Meeting Cairns

    **
Please note that a public meeting has been called in Cairns on 9th December 2009 at Croswell Hall, commencing at 7.00pm. Come and show your support for the lifestyle and freedom we all love.
Join the protest in a regional centre near you.

    Some gossip:

The Party has held its Annual General Meeting in Cairns and installed a new Party Executive Committee. The new Committee comprises a mix of experience and new blood. Original Party Executive members include: Alex Witten; Wayne Bayne; and Malcolm Bairstow.
All of who have successfully taken the Party to two elections. Outgoing Chairman Kevin Collins has pro-vided his full support for the incoming Executive for the reinvigoration of a newly energized Australian Fishing and Lifestyle party.

** All Cut and pasted from the current newsletter for your interest, I am not an official nor spokesperson for the party.

    Re: Aflp Meeting Cairns

Yep, court case over, so now they can get back to the business. I suggest fishos check out their website to see what they're about.

Yeah they are still kicking, big turnout tonight, party is going from strength to strength yet again, registered state and federally, has a FNQ candidate and will be announcing a SEQ candidate soon, they are the real deal and I have 4 bumper stickers to prove it

3rd biggest political party in Queensland ATM...a claim made tonight that dropped my jaw.

Seems that once again there will be lots of result orientated work happening quietly on behalf of all outdoors users these next few years.

We also got a good synopsis from Ron Boswell of how the AFLPs push through him to crush Garrets corral sea legislation was disallowed 31 to 31 in the senate and why, saving it now is pretty much a lost cause.

Cafnet our local FNQ environmental zealot organisation copped a bit
of long deserved ridicule which was nice to see.

    Thanks for the update mate.

It is good to see the political side of the fishing debate kicked into life and becoming the pheonix. We do need them to keep the greens from picking up a senate seat here in QLD and they have a very valuable and strategic role to play in the rights of anglers.

    Re: Aflp Meeting Cairns

Happy to Chris, last night was a breath of fresh air, near standing room only at one stage and this is a BIG school hall with enough seating to accommodate Cairn's biggest high school, literally a thousand + people at one stage.

The fishing industry network of (free) individuals sitting on the stage was also entirely heartening, never seen anything like that in Australia before.

For the first time ever I can fully see the long term aspiration i have held - to as a citizen send letters on issues (and actually mean it with backup!) at sitting state, federal and local members (department heads even) with total content not much higher than "your current job is on the line" or "would you like to accept the only opportunity available to keep your current position?"

IMO This fantasy in all reality is politically not all that far way

I like what I see again....Didnt know there was a court case against them...whats up with that? What did they "apparently" do?

Renewing membership today...Upgrading to a Family one...
I CAME INTO THIS WORLD KICKING, SCREAMING AND COVERED IN SOMEONE ELSES BLOOD. I HAVE NO PROBLEM GOING OUT THE SAME WAY.

    Re: Aflp Meeting Cairns

The court case was against the Australian electoral commission, trying to prove they registered the AFLP illegally. Don't know the point of law used. Somehow a lot of money/powerful people considered the AFLP was a big threat to the continued comfortable political status quo in the country.

From what I have gathered it was the same hired gun used in the Peter Costello et al crusade against one nation.

Would very much like to read the words in the final court ruling but cannot find it on the net.

    Re: Aflp Meeting Cairns

FNQ - It was the NSW Fishing Party vs Australian Electoral commission. The AFLP was merely a named party but the gist of your message is basically correct. it all started here.... http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/sho...d.php?t=125638

    Re: Aflp Meeting Cairns

He changed his name by de-pol to Ned Kelly........Terry Sharples. See if this sounds familiar to anything we have seen recently....

"However, after the 1998 Queensland election, a disendorsed One Nation candidate, Mr Terry Sharples, said that the 500 membership claim was a lie and called for the party to be deregistered."
