    Lambswool Seat Covers

Folks, I want to get some for the 200 Series. They have to be "specials" because each seat has an airbag in the side.

Anyone out there in Ausfish land know what's best?

    Cheers,

Don't know about an airbag in the side but there is an airbag sitting on the seat. Sorry Tim I just couldn’t resist.

Thanks so much Phill. Having done that search, I was interested to get some opinions, you see. I thought perhaps there was someone on AF who made them and would perhaps like my business...

    Cheeky bastard.

    G'day,

    Isn't everyone helpful!

Toyota does a pretty extensive range of seat covers for their cars so start there.

If that doesn't work there is a really good sheep skin seat cover manufacturer on Elizabeth Avenue in Clontarf just a couple of doors from Cunninghams Marine. I think they are called Skinnies. I expect you will have to get them custom made to avoid the pod for the side mounted airbag.

Here's some other stuff to be mindful about with airbags:

With driver (steering wheel) and passenger airbags don't wear jewellery. The force of an airbag can make it lethal. Don't wear sunglasses made of glass or with metal frames. They can blind you or puncture your skull with the force of an airbag. Don't ever put anything in the way of an airbag. The dangly on the rear view mirror and your after-market mobile phone holder will become lethal weapons in front of a deploying airbag.

For drivers, do not ever cross your arms over the airbag. If this is your usual habit, change it. If you are ever in a prang or loss of control you will steer like this and if the prang happens you will have your wrist smashed into your nose which will make an awful mess and may kill you. If you are wearing a wrist watch it will almost certainly kill you but save you a lot of pain.

If your driving habit is to cross your arms when steering you have to learn to drag and hold and drag and hold the wheel. This is not the push and pull the wheel method. It is better.

If you have side and curtain airbags you have a huge additional measure of safety in side impacts - but only if the windows are closed. Otherwise the airbags just move with momentum and go out the open window.

Side windows should be fully open or fully closed. In a mild side impact a fully open window may result in a broken neck and quadraplegia. A fully closed window may limit this to a fractured skull. A part open window may cause an impact of the edge of the glass and the softest part of your skull, between the eye and the ear. Then you are dead.

I've gone on a bit but do you know that motor vehicles accidents are the highest incidence of workplace injury and death? And it's not marginal. It is three times the next nearest cause of injury and death. Surely this is preventable.

I've had sheepskin seat covers in the last two FWD's and for me never again.Just aren't worth it.Custom fit Black Duck seatcovers are the go,waterproof after you've been for a swim at the beach at Staddie and will wear out long after the sheepskin has turned to sh@#$t.A helluva lot easier to clean as well. It'll make the 200 look like a fourby as well. But that's me.Jim
