    Acouple of firsts

After a couple of slow, but pleasant, afternoon sessions fishing for bass from the bank,Highlighted by a couple of small bass on the surface( a first for me)I decided to submit to my 11 year old's request and take to the water early with the double Kayak.
We got on the water about 4.15 this morning ( you gotta be keen ) and picked up a couple of nice bass around 40 cm fairly quickly. The boy was still not off the mark ( He is quite accomplished offshore, courtesy of a cast iron constitution, but hasnt been on the freshwater before). so we moved a little and worked on his cast a little.
Next thing the young bloke has a 35 cm mullet leaping all over the joint. You 'd think he was on a marlin. Mullet on an atomic hardz diver?, and it had really inhaled it!
We had a little troll and he soon had his first Bass. 42 cm is not a Bad start either.
That was the first fish for either of us trolled in the yak.
Things went quiet after about 5 o'clock and after much paddling and casting and trolling it seemed we would go to breakfast locked up at just 2 fish each.
But just as we had the end in sight greedy old Dad pulled one out of his arse and foul hooked a last bass in shadowy snag. Somebody say something about competitive??
Coffee was steaming and lots of fish talk over breaky.
I'm sure He'll clean me up from now on.

Great report Brendan, the young blokes off to a good start. And good onya for taking him out for a bit of bassin'. There's not much that can match the feeling of watching a little bloke wrestling a strong fish. I know I play those memories in my head over and over.
