is this true this would be my favourite to things together the good old flathead and the surface lure
bu i never really thought it is possible if so how what kind of places should i target these predators
Up on the flats, less than knee deep. I know from watching the "popping for whiting" section with Steve Starling, he mentioned his PB flathead was taken in the shallows while popping for whiting.
Yep, caught plenty on poppers.
Actually, I once tied on a fancy japanese 'sinking' popper that cost my about $25.
Gave it a test cast into about 30cm of water just to see the action. Got absolutely hammered by a monster flattie that went absolutely nuts in that shallow water.... right before biting me off and taking my prized lure with it.
But yeah, as stated, shallow water is the key. We've caught the vast majority of our decent flatheads in less than a metre of water, regardless of plastics or poppers.
