what's wrong with it? they are a pretty simple reel, but still not too sure why brand new is not covered by warranty.

How is it out of warranty brand new straight out of the box??? Did someone buy u a chrissie present 10 years ago and forget to give it to you or something???

Whats going on? somethings not quite right here...

Also, be careful taking it to a reel repairer, they dont get much practice on TLDs lol

Warranty is only valid if you have receipts.

    No receipts, no warranty

Jim might be like me with ones he has won. No reciepts for them. I have a heap that I would like factory repaired. It is worth boxing them up and sending a letter with it back to Shimano and trying your luck that way though. I've only heard good stories about the work they do there in repairing and servicing stuff. Sometimes it only costs you the postage one way to get it to them initially.

Captain, this is the easiest reel to repair. Do you have a phillips head screwdriver? And the small tool that should have been in the box? A little "blue" grease and light oil? And about an hour? Open it up and see what's not working (what is the problem anyway?).

TLDs seem to be delivered with less grease than needed so it may be a stuck bearing which will cost about $30 for a new one or just get the old one working with new grease. I've just been delivered a new Tyrnos which needed a service straight up.

Go to this site and see how easy this is ... http://alantani.com/

It is very handy to know what's inside your reel just in case of failure when you are out on the reef.
